The pledge of a great man

More than 60 years have elapsed since the great leader Comrade Kim Jong Il take a historic pledge on Ryongnam Hill, leaving traces of leadership to Kim Il Sung University.

Great history is not a mere accumulation of time.

It covers the noble intention and warm breath of the great man who created it.

The proud course of the Korean revolution starts and continues with the great pledge of the peerlessly great men who have the destiny of the country and nation on their shoulders.

Kim Hyong Jik, who is outstanding leader of the anti-Japanese national liberation movement and father of the great leader Comrade Kim Il Sung, pioneered the dawn of the Korean revolution and cherished the pledge of Jiwon (Aims high) to achieve the independence of the country even by fighting generation after generation when he fell down after fighting.

The great leader Comrade Kim Il Sung crossed the Amnok River with a great intention to liberate the country and took a solemn pledge that he would never return unless Korea was independent.

The pledge "O Korea, I Will Add Glory to Thee" made by the great leader Comrade Kim Jong Il on Ryongnam Hill along with those noble pledges was a historic declaration that proclaimed to the whole world the iron will to carry forward and accomplish the revolutionary cause of Juche pioneered by the great leader Comrade Kim Il Sung generation after generation.

The great leader Comrade Kim Jong Il said:

"To become masters of the Korean revolution and carry forward the cause of the leader down through the generations is the noble duty we have assumed before the times and the revolution, the country and the people."

On Sept. 1, Juche 49 (1960), the great leader Comrade Kim Jong Il left an immortal mark at Kim Il Sung University and climbed the picturesque Ryongnam Hill, leading students.

Looking over the main building of the university, which was magnificent and solemn in the light of the morning sun rising far beyond the Taedong River, he recollected the day when he had visited the university under construction in full swing with the great leader Comrade Kim Il Sung and anti-Japanese war heroine Mother Kim Jong Suk.

That day Mother Kim Jong Suk said that she was very pleased that the people's university, which was pictured to be a dream in the past when fighting in the mountains, was now being built, and that he had grown up to study at this university and support father well. The great leader Comrade Kim Jong Il recalled with deep emotion that her words reflected the ardent desire of the revolutionary forerunners to uphold his intention and the high expectations of our people.

He continued: To remain responsible for the Korean revolution and uphold the cause of the great leader Comrade Kim Il Sung generation after generation was our noble duty for the times, the revolution, the country and the people.

The great leader Comrade Kim Jong Il said:

"Add glory to Korea, the country of the great sun, for all ages-this is my steadfast faith and will."

His solemn declaration on Ryongnam Hill reflected the iron will and firm determination to accomplish to the end the revolutionary cause of Juche pioneered by the great leader Comrade Kim Il Sung generation after generation.

Then the great leader Comrade Kim Jong Il recited a poem representing the far-reaching ideal, great ambition and noble sense of mission he had confirmed before the times and the country.

Indeed, the poem "O Korea, I Will Add Glory to Thee" recited by the great leader Comrade Kim Jong Il was a great pledge reflecting the far-reaching plan and ambition of the peerlessly great man.

Looking round the students in great excitement and emotion, he said modestly that he was not a poet, had not recited the poem in some instant emotion, and had just expressed his feelings from his bottom of his heart on that historic hill.

Indeed, the sacred revolutionary career of the great leader Comrade Kim Jong Il, which is recorded in his lofty course of a peerless patriot, great revolutionary and a great man with few parallels in history, is condensed in this historic pledge confirmed by him to the country and people on Ryongnam Hill in his early years.

Sixty years have passed since the historic declaration resounded solemnly on Ryongnam Hill.

It is said that pass of the time removes everything from the people's memory, but why does the historic pledge of that day touch our people to their heart of the country with great amplitude today?

This is because the DPRK has risen high in the imagination of the century along with the great historic pledge and lots of eye-opening miracles and victories are unfolded on this land with admiration of the world.

The great leader Comrade Kim Jong Il perfectly synthesized and systematized the Juche idea with his extraordinary memory, analytical ability, sharp insight and boundless energy and proclaimed the program of modeling the whole society on the Juche idea.

Thanks to his leadership and guidance under the unfurled banner of Juche, our Party established the principal line clearly, the Juche-oriented ideological system firmly and thoroughly applied the style of work and style to Party work of the great leader Comrade Kim Il Sung.

The great leader Comrade Kim Jong Il perfectly solved the gigantic tasks set forth by the times and revolution with his profound insight into all fields of the revolution and construction. His energetic leadership brought about epoch-making changes in all parts of the country.

That was why one day the great leader Comrade Kim Il Sung warmly said that a new change was brought about in the work of various fields of politics, the economy and culture, and to say nothing of Party work, great innovations and upsurges were made on all parts of socialist construction since the start of his leadership.

The unique leader who matched the pledge and practice, herein lies the distinguished personality of the great leader Comrade Kim Jong Il as a great man and his immortal exploits fascinating all the people.

History will always remember and praise forever the noble exploits of him who turned the DPRK into a dignified and powerful invincible power, burning his soul to the last moments of his life true to the great pledge on Ryongnam Hill.

This historic pledge on Ryongnam Hill is being carried forward by respected Comrade Kim Jong Un, another peerlessly great man.

He said that the WPK would love the people and struggle for them and make their beautiful dreams and ideals true, regarding the sacred idea and exploits of the great leader Comrade Kim Il Sung and the great leader Comrade Kim Jong Il who brought up the people, glorified the DPRK and devoted his whole life to believing in the people as in Heaven as model.

The Korean people keenly realized how great the leadership of the peerlessly great man produced creation and changes and brought about rich fruits in the march of the new century of Juche which has been steadfastly followed by him.

Following the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un, the Korean people will always glorify the sacred revolutionary career and immortal exploits of the great leader Comrade Kim Jong Il, peerless patriot who demonstrated the dignity and might of Juche Korea to the whole world with his great pledge and gigantic revolutionary practice.
