The respected Comrade Kim Jong Un said:

"General Kim Jong Il was a peerless patriot; he loved his country and fellow people more ardently than anybody else did, and he devoted his whole life to achieving the prosperity of the country and the happiness of the people. Thus he performed imperishable exploits that are etched in the history of the country."

From mid-August to early October 1962, Chairman Kim Jong Il spent the days of military camping together with students of Kim Il Sung University in Oun-dong, Ryongsong District, Pyongyang, channeling great efforts into preparing the students militarily.

On September 11, 1962 when military camping was in full swing, he met the military campers of Kim Il Sung University and illustrated the necessity of a politician possessed of pen and sword.

In the meeting, he paid primary attention to awakening the students to the need that a politician should be possessed of both pen and sword on the basis of correct understanding of the inevitable course toward the victory of revolution.

He said that the present era was an era in which the working masses were waging a vigorous struggle to achieve national independence and class emancipation and to realize socialism and communism, and that in order to free the broad masses from exploitation, oppression and the colonial rule of the imperialists, it was the first thing for the popular masses to win the power. He continued that the reactionary exploiting classes wouldn't give up the power of its own will in any cases, that they would use violence to suffocate the revolutionary advance of the working masses, that in accomplishing the historic cause of winning the working class power was no more than the beginning, that having seized the power the working class should continue to push ahead with the struggle of building up the revolutionary armed forces led by the Party and that defend the revolutionary gains from counterrevolutionary violence.

And he continued to say that the leaders of the working class as well, who led the revolutionary struggle of the oppressed working masses to eliminate capitalism and colonialism and win freedom and liberation, attached great importance to military affairs and put large efforts to it understanding the importance of military affairs in the revolutionary struggle, that because the building of socialism and communism was accompanied by the struggle to repel imperialist aggression, the revolutionary history of the working class and the national liberation struggle had shown that only a competent leader, an able politician militarily prepared as well as possessed of scientific revolutionary theories and leading methods, could lead the revolution to victory.

That day Kim Jong Il also clarified to the students that politicians should acquire both literary and military knowledge in accordance with the prevailing situation at home and abroad.

He taught them that the process of successfully carrying out the historic cause of building socialism and communism was accompanied by the struggle to repulse the imperialists' aggression adding that the US and other imperialists regarding the countries building socialism and communism as thorns in their flesh, were continuously increasing their armed forces to stifle those countries and igniting a war at every possible opportunity. The Korean war provoked by the US imperialists abusing the flag of UN, the armed invasion of fascist Germany against the socialist Soviet Union and the US imperialists' armed intervention to stifle the revolution in Cuba in its cradle manifested that fact.

He continued that that era was by no means as mild as the revisionists advocate; it was not an era of "peaceful coexistence." The imperialists were trying to destroy small countries, avoiding confrontation with big countries as much as possible, while trying to break them apart. He pointed out the issues arising in military preparations to face the reality and cope with it along with the issues of principle that would occur when the working-class party building socialism and communism gave importance to military affairs.

Noting that the situation in our country was also very tense, he said that the imperialists were continuously increasing their armed forces, staging frequent aggressive military drills seeking for a chance to unleash a new war against us. He continued to say that we should not be slackened even for a moment and military affairs should not be neglected in any case. Our Party attached more importance to military affairs than ever before and demand everyone military education.

True to the precious instructions of the Chairman Kim Jong Il, the students vowed to conduct military training better during the military camping and prepare themselves to be revolutionary talents equipped with both pen and sword.
