Chairman Kim Jong Il, who was endowed with brilliant wisdom and profound knowledge, incomparable to none, from his early days, perfectly embodied Juche idea of the President with his energetic and extraordinary efforts and assimilated all the ideological and cultural treasure mankind has attained so far.

President Kim Il Sung said:

"Comrade Kim Jong Il is a man of passion."

The light coming out of the room of the great general was never turned off even at dawn. Inspired with the noble example of Chairman Kim Jong Il, the professors and students followed suit and studied hard to learn the revolutionary ideas of the great leader.

There are many stories about his assiduous learning spirit that led his fellow students with his own example. This is one of them.

One evening, the students who were preparing for the first term exam, went to see him. Some of them were discharged soldiers.

Beaming as bright as the sun, he shook hands with them one by one and inquired about their health and whether they received letters from home regularly. Having a small talk, some about new developments at home and abroad, he waited for their excitement to calm down. After a while he suggested discussing about what they had studied. He put forward some controversial issues to discuss about and encouraged the discussion in a proper way, asking questions when necessary and inducing to adequate conclusions when each topic was over. His judgements were not simply the answers to the questions raised. The concepts were indeed profound and unique ideological and theoretical statement, as they gave light to the content and essence of all the questions based on the teachings and the works of President Kim Il Sung.

Taking his ideas to their hearts, the students were really moved, as if they had finished several political courses overnight. The night was advancing, but Chairman Kim Jong Il went on helping their studies with his tireless enthusiasm.

When the discussion was drawing to a close, he asked them to wait for him looking around his bookcases for a while because he had something else urgent to do for a while.

As soon as he left, his fellows rushed to his study to see his bookcases running two walls, full of writings of the President such as the "Kim Il Sung Selected Works" and other classic literature by such great philosophers as Marx and Lenin. The bookcases were also filled with books of various sectors like philosophy, politics, economics, the arts and literature, science and technology. A wide variety of magazines and newspapers were also piled up there.

His comrades, all agape, tried several books. The boys were surprised to find he had already read all those books. On almost every page of the works of the President, important sections were carefully underlined with colored pencils and on the shelves laid cardboard boxes containing notebooks with excerpts of the works. He had read the classic works of the President in detail and fully grasped its essence, they thought. Also, on almost every other pages of those philosophical, political, economic, literary and scientific books were his comments.

Only then did they could realize why he was so well versed with the Juche idea and limitations of precedented theories. Chairman Kim Jong Il's reading ability was extraordinary. No wonder they were impressed with his tireless efforts and spirit of inquiry from the very moment they knew him. He was a model of men of wisdom with high degree of enthusiasm with which he delved into the secret of the books and with the unusual habit of reading until he finished the last page once a good book came into his hand no matter how bad the reading atmosphere could be and the extraordinary wisdom of expositing the true nature of all the questions, some of which other students even dared not solve.

But no one there had ever imagined he read so many books. He must have read hundreds of pages of books every day, they thought. Chairman Kim Jong Il's outstanding talent and insight were the outcome of his extraordinary nature and energetic inquiring spirit. Indeed, Kim Jong Il was a peerless enthusiast, avid reader and energetic thinker.

Presently, Chairman Kim Jong Il came back. Asking them if they had understood all the issues under discussion, he suggested going ahead with the rest of the questions. On closing the discussion, he stressed that all his classmates should firmly equip themselves with the revolutionary idea of the President and steadily improve their scientific and theoretical qualification with the far-reaching ideal and ambition to do a great job for the country and people. He also said that they should never forget even for a moment that it was both the way they had to go along to live up to the high expectation of President Kim Il Sung and the road of golden victory to occupy the fortress of science.

Before the great personality of Chairman Kim Jong Il, the colleagues firmly resolved to become true revolutionary soldiers whole-heartedly loyal to the fatherly leader just like Chairman Kim Jong Il.
