DPRK-Russia Friendship Symposium "Education in Korean and Russian Languages at Kim Il Sung University and Universities of Russian Federation" Takes Place

DPRK-Russia Friendship Symposium was held at the e-library of Kim Il Sung University on May 19.

The participants of the symposium presented flower baskets and bouquets and bowed to the bronze statue of the great leaders Comrade Kim Il Sung and Comrade Kim Jong Il on Ryongnam Hill.

The opening ceremony was held in the 200-seat comprehensive lecture hall at the e-library.

Present there were officials and scholars of our university, experts in Korean language from Russian universities including Moscow Lomonosov State University and Far Eastern Federal University.

Also present there were staff members of Russian Embassy including A. I. Matsegora, Russian Ambassador to the DPRK.

Sin Yong Ho, Dean of Literature College at Kim Il Sung University made an opening speech.

Mentioning that there was to be held a symposium at Kim Il Sung University under the theme of 'Education in Korean and Russian Languages at Kim Il Sung University and Universities of Russian Federation' with the universities of Russia including Moscow Lomonosov State University, he sent warm congratulations to the prominent scholars from Russian universities present in the symposium in the name of all the lecturers, staff and students of Kim Il Sung University.

He continued that it was very significant that the experts in Korean and Russian languages at Kim Il Sung University and those in Korean language from Russian universities gathered to exchange valuable achievements and experiences gained in Korean and Russian languages education this year, the meaningful Year of DPRK-Russia Friendship, and stressed that this symposium would be a gathering of great significance in promoting the bonds of friendship to a new higher level.

Then followed congratulatory speeches made by Jong Man Ho, Vice-President for Social Sciences at Kim Il Sung University, A. I. Matsegora, Russian Ambassador to the DPRK and V. A. Stepanenko, Dean and professor of College of Russian Language and Culture at Moscow Lomonosov State University.

Saying that Kim Il Sung University, the oldest and the most prestigious university in Korea, has firm and old ties of friendship with many universities in Russia, they were certain that this symposium would breathe new life into cooperation between universities, activate exchanges of students and lecturers between Kim Il Sung University and Moscow Lomonosov State University and Far Eastern Federal University and animate the activities of DPRK-Russia Cooperation Centre For Economy and Science and Technology established at Kim Il Sung University. They continued that education of Korean students in Russian language marks a brilliant page in the history of Russian language education for foreigners in their country and that they are cherishing deep in their hearts the memories of the days when many of their lecturers worked in the DPRK.

The speakers wished new and creative successes in the work common to them and the development of friendly relations.

A. I. Matsegora, Russian Ambassador to the DPRK presented as gifts books and teaching materials to the DPRK-Russia Cooperation Centre for Economy and Science and Technology and to Russian Language Department of Faculty of Foreign Languages and Literature.

At the e-library took place discussions divided into Korean Language and Russian Language Sections.

In the Korean Language Section were presented such papers as 'Study on Inter-relationship between Acquisition of Mother tongue and Foreign Language'(Jong Tae Sun, PhD, Associate Professor and Lecturer of Linguistics Department, Literature College), 'Issue of Analysing Grammatical Terms of Sentence with Staged Extension Structure'(Pak Jae Ho, PhD, Professor and Lecturer of Korean Language Department, Literature College), 'Some Mistakes made by Foreigners in Using Korean Particles of Time and Their Causes'(Choe Sung Ju, PhD, Associate Professor and Lecturer of Korean Language Department, Literature College), 'Korean Language Teaching for Preppies at Oriental Languages Training Centre under Moscow State University of International Relations' (Sinyakova Anna Filimonovna from Moscow State University of International Relations), 'Understanding of Artistic and Literary Texts as an Issue of Linguistic Pedagogy'(Kulivina Natalia Vladimirovna, PhD and Professor of Pushkin State University of Russian Language).

In the Russian Language Section such papers as 'Immortal Exploits Performed by the Great Leaders in Strengthening and Developing Professional Training in Russian Language and Literature'(Ri Won Nam, PhD, Associate Professor and Head of Department of Russian Language and Literature, Faculty of Foreign Languages and Literature), 'Techniques to Give a Clear Understanding of Phonemic Differences in Korean and Russian Languages in the Teaching of Russian Pronunciation'(An Jong Suk, M.A. and Associate Professor of Department of Russian Language and Literature, Faculty of Foreign Languages and Literature), 'Several Methods To Improve Compilation of Teaching Contents of Russian Textbook for Non-majors'(Jang Won Il, M.A., Associate Professor and Head of Russian Language Department, Faculty of Foreign Languages and Literature), 'New Methods in Teaching Russian as a Foreign Language'(Stepanenko Vera Alexandrovna, PhD and Associate Professor of College of Russian Language and Culture, Moscow Lomonosov State University), 'Realization of Principles of Language Application in Russian Textbooks of New Generation for Foreigners'(Nakhavina Maya Mikhailovna, PhD and Associate Professor of College of Russian Language and Culture, Moscow Lomonosov State University), 'Modern Russian Textbook for Foreigners -- Theory and Practice'(Azimov Elkhan Geidarovich, PhD and Professor of Pushkin State University of Russian Language).

About 40 papers were presented in this symposium.

Along with this, at the e-library were held an academic round-table talk on economics on the topic of 'The Present and Prospect of Economic Cooperation between the DPRK and Russian Federation' between scholars including Kim Hong Il, PhD, Associate Professor and Head of Trade Economics Department of Economics Faculty of our university and Kukula Marina Petrovna, Department Head of Far Eastern Federal University and an academic round-table talk on history on the topic of 'Position of Archaeological Remains of Sopho Port in the Division of Neolithic and Bronze Eras in Korea and its Surrounding Areas' between scholars including Han Kum Sik, M.A, Associate Professor and Chief of Research Laboratory of Human History of Evolution, History Faculty and Alkin Sergei Vladimirovich, Associate Professor of Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Novosibirsk State University.

The closing ceremony was held in the afternoon.

Yun Nam, Dean of Faculty of Foreign Languages and Literature of Kim Il Sung University made a closing speech.

The letter to the respected Marshal Kim Jong Un, the General Secretary of our Party and people was read by Cherepobskaya Irina Borisovna, Chief of Russian Language and Culture Centre at Far Eastern Federal University in great applause of the participants.

The symposium was held successfully, adding further significance to the Year of DPRK-Russia Friendship and has been a meaningful occasion in strengthening and developing the relations of exchange and cooperation between the universities of both countries.
