By opening a new history of building apartment houses of our own style

Chairman Kim Jong Il said:

"The revolutionary career of the leader who opened up the revolutionary cause of Juche and led it to victory is the most glorious and brilliant history imbued with his immortal exploits of leadership, his boundless devotion to the cause of revolution, his largeness of mind and magnanimity with which he embraced all the people and led them to the road of revolution, his warm love for the people, and his humble and popular character."

The great leader Comrade Kim Il Sung devoted his whole life to the happiness of the people and worked heart and soul to build more civilized and affluent streets, villages and dwelling houses for the people.

His fatherly love for the people is also associated with the apartment houses of Korean style which have been built with underfloor heating suited to the customs peculiar to the Korean people.

One day in April Juche 43(1954), he went round the dormitory of the then Pyongyang General Textile Mill and saying the Korean people liked the house with the floor for heating the dormitory, he suggested laying the pipes for hot steam to pass through beneath the floor. When he was looking round the apartment blocks in Sungni Street one day in October that year, he said that all flats should be furnished with heating system under the floor, not the fireplace and hot-water radiators, which are peculiar to the customs of the Korean people.

When he was informed of the fact that the people are living in their cold flats in the newly-built loop line street, he was unable to sleep all night and was very heartbroken. When the new day began to dawn at the end of November Juche 44 (1955), he headed for loop line street severe frost.

The great leader walked about the street quietly for a long time, in deep thought, feeling cold frost.

When he eventually found one of the flats lit up, he went into it and apologizing for coming so early, asked the hostess if the house was not cold.

The fireplace was rather cold but she said that she was ready happy to live in such a wonderful house.

Listening to her, he gazed at the frosted kitchen window for a while without a word. Then looking round the fireplace himself, he wondered how such fireplace would heat the room when it was extremely cold.

The great leader Comrade Kim Il Sung said that the Korean people would not get used to a fireplace that they liked the warm room best because they had lived on the hot floor of the room, and that they should solve the problem of laying the under floor heating system in the flats.

Immediately after he returned from that flat, he convened a consultative meeting of officials in the construction field in Pyongyang.

For a long time he discussed about measures and ways to build all apartment houses for a long time in conformity with the demands of the people and, in particular, to set up under floor heating system in both the flats which had already been built and to be built later.

He said with deep emotion that building the apartment houses with floor heating system should be the first thing to be done, and that it would be worth doing for our people and even thought quite a lot of material, fund might be needed, nothing should be spared for the people.

As a result from the next year, a large number of apartment houses began to be built with two rooms each, one with floor of heating system, and the other covered with board.

Not content with this, he later set forth the task of introducing under floor heating system to all the living rooms of a house, and he wisely led the work to implement it.

Thus, the great leader Comrade Kim Il Sung led wisely the work of building apartment houses in keeping with the customs peculiar to our people. This was revolution in the world history in architecture as it opened up a new history of building houses of our own style.
