The respected Comrade
"Comrade
There is a vegetables greenhouse in the northern part of the country which is marked by the sagacious leadership and brilliant wisdom of President
On 29th of May, Juche 70 (1981), the President visited a vegetables greenhouse in then Sonbong County when he was giving on-the-spot guidance in North Hamgyong Province.
Having arrived at the greenhouse, he first enquired whether the farming was done using hot water from the thermal power plant.
Actually, the farm was obtaining heat by burning heavy oil because the construction to bring the hot water from the thermal power plant had not been completed.
Learning the situation, the President urged that the construction should be finished at its earlier date and continued: the greenhouse was built to produce vegetables using that hot water, the temperature of the water could be of up to 120 ℃ so by heating the greenhouse with that water, farming could be done without using heavy oil boiler.
The President said earnestly to finish the construction without delay and produce winter vegetables.
The officials were deeply impressed by the warm love and benevolence of the President who visited an unknown vegetables greenhouse in the northern part of the country and desired to provide people in mountainous region with vegetables throughout the year. They made a firm resolution to finish the construction at its earliest date and produce fresh vegetables on a large scale and in a splendid way.
That day the President said that the region was colder than Pyongyang and asked an official about the lowest temperature of the region.
An official reported that the temperature would go down to-22℃ and continued that according to the farming experience, the low temperature was not a problem but because of the high water level, the soil temperature was low and that affected vegetables production.
Having listened to the official carefully, the President pondered and gave a teaching that digging ditches in the front and back of the greenhouse would ensure the soil temperature of the greenhouse not to be lowered even in winter.
It was a light bulb to the officials. Actually, the low soil temperature was the most troublesome problem which put a brake on the increasing of the vegetables production.
It was, however, none other than the President who came up with the solution in an instant.
His teaching was the "precise prescription" for putting vegetables production on a steady basis even in winter.
It was because digging ditches would capably prevent the damage caused by the cold and humidity spreading in the greenhouse and lead to the increase of soil temperature thus enabling normalization of the vegetables production even in winter.
That day President
Afterwards, upholding the teachings of the President, the officials and farmers of the county finished the constructions of laying pipes to bring the hot water to the greenhouse and riparian works to lower the groundwater zone in a short period thus achieving great success in the production of greenhouse vegetables.
Indeed, President
