The Great Love Received by the Keeper of the Ryonghung Temple and His Wife

 2023.11.8.

The respected Comrade Kim Jong Un said:

"If it is the wish of the people, I will pluck a star from the heavens or grow flowers even on a rock–this was the noble expression of General Kim Jong Il's affection for the people, and his will."

Mt. Paekun is a famous scenic spot situated in Yonggwang County, South Hamgyong Province. Here is Ryonghung Temple, one of historical and cultural relics aging hundreds of years showing the high level of architectural art and outstanding artistic talent of our people.

Every year, many visitors came to enjoy the natural beauty of the place and its historic spots but none of them paid attention to the life of the keeper, his wife and daughter living in the mountain.

In May, Juche 97 (2008), Chairman Kim Jong Il visited Mt. Paekun and dropped in Ryonghung Temple. He asked about the history of the temple and gave precious instructions on preserving and managing the temple as its original state.

After looking round the temple, he came down to the foot of the mountain where there was a newly-built resort hall and looked at Mt. Paekun for a while with a refreshing mood.

He said with a big smile on his face that the trees on the mountain were straight and tall and the visitors would be glad to enjoy the thickly wooded scenery.

He came up on the bridge over the stream where the Sanju Falls ran down. He tested the amount of running water saying that the stream should have plenty of water so as to make visitors happy.

The officials were deeply impressed by his words. He always gave precedence to people even when looking at a tree and a stream of water.

When he came to the pavilion ballroom, he got sight of a television there and was really happy to see that the holidaymakers could enjoy their cultural and emotional life to their hearts' content by drawing electricity to the resort at the foot of the mountain far from the capital of the county.

After a moment's thought, he asked if there was a TV over the pavilion.

The officials could not give an answer soon.

In fact, it was the temple keeper's house but there was no electricity applied, so they couldn't watch TV.

Many people visited the temple, but none of them cared about whether the keeper couple watched TV.

The couple themselves felt eager to watch TV, but they thought it was impossible to do so because their house was deep in the mountain.

The officials reported the Chairman that they would instruct the county authorities to provide the couple a battery to ensure they watch TV. Chairman Kim Jong Il sympathized with their feelings and the inconveniences. Hearing the officials' words, he bestowed benevolence that he would personally send them a TV.

At that moment the officials looked up to him with deep emotion.

When the keeper and his wife were informed that news from the officials, they were so grateful and excited that they stayed up several nights in their tears looking up to the portraits of the peerlessly great men in the room.

In June, Juche 97 (2008), Chairman Kim Jong Il sent a TV set and a lot of daily necessities as gifts to the couple.

Later, scientists of the State Academy of Sciences came to set up a solar battery and a low-head impulsive hydro generator so that they could watch TV as well as lighting without any problem.

The couple were greatly impressed by these wonderful measures and kept shedding tears.

Chairman Kim Jong Il who recognized their services to volunteer as keepers and work for over 10 years during the Arduous March and conferred great benefits upon them. His love became one of Mt. Paekun legends.

Indeed, Chairman Kim Jong Il is the benevolent father of people who devoted his all to his people with the noble intention and will to pick up stars of the sky and blossom flowers even on stones if the people wanted it.
