After liberation in DPRK, some people said that the term "service" was used in old society and added that it does not fit well in socialist one, since it was supported by a handful of exploiting class in old society.
Learning this, the President gave precious instructions on the essence of service, saying that the term service was used from olden times but it can still be used. He scientifically clarified the essence of the service.
President
"The term Pongsa has been in use from olden times. After liberation I instructed that this word should continue to be used as before. This word means serving somebody. When we talk about serving somebody, we mean serving the people rather than the landlords and capitalists. Therefore, there is no harm in using this word as it is."
The term service means accepting and serving. In other words, it is used in the sense of providing people with convenience by means of material and labour so that they are free from inconvenience.
If people are to live, they should live material, cultural and emotional life of food, clothing and housing. They cannot solve all the problems needed for this, and they should be helped by others.
In this way, people have become equipped with what is needed for their material and cultural life and provide them with convenience for their lives. This is called service.
In socialist society, service is the work of supporting people. In other words, in socialist society, service is the economic activity of people who devote their all to providing people with better living convenience.
The essence of service in socialist society lies in serving the people and making it means of improving their living standards.
As seen above, the President clarified for the first time in history that service serves people and serves as means for improving their living standards.
He also scientifically clarified the character of the service.
In general, services are conducted with different characters and purposes according to the social system. In capitalist society, the workers in the service sector are working for a handful of exploiting class and their individual benefit, but in socialist society they are entrusted with the honourable task of providing working people with a better material and cultural life.
Saying that the service workers should be faithful servants of the people who serve them better, the President said that there is no greater happiness than being faithful servants of the people and nothing is more honoured than that.
In socialist society, all the working people hold equal social positions as masters of state power and means of production, and there can be no discrimination or inequality in this respect.
In socialist society, all people who are served and those who serve are the genuine masters of society who are equal in their position, so there can be no discrimination or inequality between them, and there could be any difference in social assignments.
Therefore, in socialist society, service is not a mere "service" in which one side supports the other because of the subjugation of others or because of the discrimination in the social position, but literally a service is permeated with the devotion to the people.
The President scientifically clarified the essence and character of service for the popular masses, the driving force of history, at the centre for the first time in history, thus providing the guidelines for defending the demand and interests of the masses for independence and ensuring their convenience in life to the highest level.
