Paying Deep Attention To The Development Of Poultry Industry

 2023.4.27.

The story goes here that President Kim Il Sung paid deep attention to providing our people with plenty of eggs and meat, which is one of the immortal revolutionary exploits achieved by the President who devoted his all to the happiness of people.

President Kim Il Sung said:

"Currently, one of the most important aspects of developing the poultry and livestock industries is to solve the protein feed problem."

Protein feed is one of the most important problem in developing poultry farming.

Proteins are the most important substances for living organisms, and animals cannot survive without protein intake. Plants and microorganisms are able to synthesize all the proteins they need with the inorganic materials absorbed from the outside, but since animals do not have the ability to do that, they have to take in proteins in the form of food.

In consideration of this, President Kim Il Sung convened a consultative meeting of officials concerned with the poultry and livestock industries on February 7, Juche 67(1978) and published the immortal classic work "Let Us Further Develop the Poultry Industry by Solving the Protein Feed Problem" to clarify in detail the ways to solve the protein feed problem in poultry farming.

The President said that in order to solve the protein feed problem earthworms should be cultured on a large scale, giving detailed instructions for the problems arising in the culture.

However, not feeling satisfied with all his efforts for it, President Kim Il Sung made a visit of inspection of a chicken farm on May 7, Juche 82(1993) to solve the problems arising in practice.

The President first looked round the breeding ground of earthworms which was of great significance in solving the problem of protein feed for chicken.

Inquiring into the earthworm breeding, the President said that it makes no sense that some people say that the earthworms in our country are less productive than those in other countries and if chickens eat them, they die because they are poisonous. He went on to say: if the earthworms are poisonous, they will be the same in other countries and if the earthworms in other countries are highly productive, the ones in our country can be quite the same with good research.

As a matter of fact, the officials in some chicken farms were indifferent to solving protein feed by earthworms and tended towards grain feed, which was due to their bigoted opinion and wrong attitude. As a result, the production of eggs and meat was not so high in some chicken farms because the chickens were not fed nutritious diet, though a lot of grains were consumed as chicken feed.

Noting that the reason for that was lack of their knowledge about earthworms and their being imbued with flunkeyism, the President gave the task of writing a book on earthworm and personally named it.

And having asked how many earthworms a chicken ate a year, he counted personally to make sure it was right to say 2190 in one year if a chicken ate 1 800 in 300 days, 360 in 60 days and 30 in 5 days.

While looking at the battery hens, he also inquired about the average number of eggs produced per chicken, the maximum number of eggs produced, the year in which they produced the largest number of eggs and the feed consumption per egg, and stressed to produce many eggs by feeding a large amount of protein feed.

The President made sure again how much animal protein should be added to chicken feed and whether it was possible to substitute fish-meal and other animal feed with earthworms.

Hearing that it was possible to do that since earthworms contained 58% protein and trace elements and vitamins, the President emphatically said to the officials that he came there to help them understand the earthworms could be substituted with animal protein including fish-meal.

And adding that earthworm compost was good for making soil fertile, he stressed the need to grow large numbers of earthworms in order to make 10 tons per hectare of the earthworm compost for the paddy and dry field.

Thus President Kim Il Sung not only solved the problem of protein feed for poultry farming in order to supply the people with plenty of meat and eggs but also made it possible to increase grain production by increasing the fertility of the paddy and dry fields by producing large quantities of excreta of earthworms and chickens.

Today singing the song "Leader, the Night Is Far Advanced" in their heart, our people are visiting the Kumsusan Palace of the Sun where the President lies in state with the strong yearning for the President who devoted his all to the people all his life
