Expression of Boundless Admiration and Respect of Sukarno

 2022.11.3.

The respected Comrade Kim Jong Un said:

"Anyone who ever met him, although they might have different ideologies and political views, expressed boundless admiration and respect for Comrade Kim Il Sung, having been attracted by his noble personality. That is why he was the richest in like-minded people and friends around the world."

President Kim Il Sung, who created the guiding ideology of the independent era and made great contributions to the cause of global independence through his energetic external activities, enjoyed boundless admiration and respect of the progressive mankind of the world.

Kimilsungia, presented to him by President Sukarno, founder of the Indonesian Nationalist Party and the first President of Indonesia, reflects such boundless admiration and respect.

Sukarno, who had been absolutely attracted to the immortal exploits and greatness of Kim Il Sung for a long time, racked his brains to find a way of expressing his greatest admiration and respect to the DPRK leader, who would visit his country on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the Bandung Conference.

One day while visiting the world-famous Bogor Botanical Garden, he stopped in front of an orchid, which was the most attractive of the thousand species of flowers and hundreds of thousand of species of tropical plants.

The director of the botanical garden told him about a moving story associated with the orchid.

As he heard of the Kim Il Sung's visit to his country, Dr. Bundt, the famous Indonesian botanist decided to present this world’s most beautiful flower to him which was bred after years of hard work. He sincerely asked the director to bring the flower into full bloom and present it to Kim Il Sung.

The director did his best with the help of dignified botanists, and the plant came into bloom.

After hearing it, Sukarno instructed him to bring the flowers into full blossom before the arrival of Kim Il Sung as Dr. Bundt had wished and report to him about it every day.

When he was told that the flowers were in full bloom, he immediately went to the botanical garden and exclaimed. He shook hands with the botanists including the director of the botanical garden, who had been anxious to name it, and said: This is the most beautiful flower I have ever seen; I am going to name it after Kim Il Sung whom I respect most.

Several days later, Sukrno conferred the Order of 1st Class of the Republic of Indonesia on President Kim Il Sung who was visiting his country as a reflection of his boundless reverence for him. Later he guided him to the Bogor Botanical Garden.

After explaining to him the story associated with the flowering plant, Sukrno said earnestly: Respected Premier Kim Il Sung, please allow us to call this new species of orchid Kimilsungia after your name; this is a unanimous wish not only of mine and my Indonesian people but also of the world people.

When the DPRK leader declined his offer modestly, Sukrno asked him earnestly again and again, saying, "Respected Premier, you've already accomplished great feats for humankind. Naming this flower after you is a wish of humankind. From now on we'll call it Kimilsungia."

At the moment the botanical garden was full of loud applause.

The day was April 13th, Juche 54 (1965).

Later, the director of the Bogor Botanical Garden devoted his tireless efforts to make Kimilsungia flourish and bloom beautifully in the DPRK, but he couldn't realize his desire. On his deathbed, he expressed his hope that the flower would thrive and bloom in Korea.

Thanks to the warm sincerity of the Indonesian people, the method of cultivation of Kimilsungia was completed, and the flower was brought to the Democratic People's Republic of Korea in Juche 64(1975), when it was 10th anniversary of Kim Il Sung's visit to Indonesia.

Kimilsungia, flower of the Sun, is a fruition born of humankind's attraction to and trust in Kim Il Sung, and a reflection of their desire and wish to name a rare flower after his name and their boundless admiration for the undying exploits he performed for the cause of global independence.
