Building Many Medical Service Bases in all Parts of the Capital City

The proud history of Juche Korea is associated with the undying leadership exploits performed by the peerlessly great men for the development of our socialist public health service.

The proud history of the development of our socialist public health service along with the sacred word of "people" shining under the name of the dignified DPR Korea is the noble history of love for the people resplendent with the wise leadership and patriotic devotion of the peerlessly great men who were endowed with the idea of believing in the people as in Heaven and devoted their all to the promotion of the people's life and health in their lifetime.

The respected Comrade Kim Jong Un said:

"Our country's socialist health care system established by the great leaders is the ultimate people-oriented public health system. It enables everyone to work and lead a happy life in good health, free from worries about medical treatment."

The President wrote a new history of public health that truly contributes to the improvement of the health of the working masses for the first time in Korea and established a genuine public health system for the people.

The immortal exploits and experience of President Kim Il Sung, who had the popular public health policies enforced in every guerrilla zone, a form of liberated area in the first half of the 1930s, and opened up a new epoch of a new popular health policy based on free medical care system and provided a noble tradition of development of socialist health system, served as a historical root and valuable guideline for the development of public health.

The wise leadership of the President over socialist public health service is associated with medical service bases in Pyongyang, the capital of Juche Korea.

One day in December Juche 61 (1972), President Kim Il Sung, who was giving field guidance to a hospital in Pyongyang, called a public health official.

Looking round the hospital that day, the President taught one by one about the problems arising in the medical service, stressing the need to build more hospitals in Pyongyang to prevent inconvenience to the people.

He said that there was Pyongyang Municipal People's Hospital No. 1 in the west area of Pyongyang, the hospital of Pyongyang university of medical sciences in the Central District and Korea General Red-Cross Hospital in the east area of Pyongyang and we would build Pyongyang Municipal People's Hospital No. 2 in the place where South Phyongan Provincial People's Hospital was situated in Taesong District in the future and large hospitals in Munsu District thus ensuring reasonable arrangement of hospitals in Pyongyang.

The President gave detailed instructions to the officials who were excited to see the bright prospect of building the medical service network in the capital city. He said that if the hospital was built too high, it would be inconvenient for the patients and four or five floors would be good.

He recalled with deep emotion that the building of Korea General Red-Cross Hospital was good and it was the first one built after liberation, adding that the hospital should be provided with good equipment and enough medicines.

Later, when modern Munsu Street was built in the east area of Pyongyang, the President saw to it that Pyongyang Maternity Hospital was built as a comprehensive medical service base for women, provided the world's best medical facilities and Kim Man Yu Hospital was built by patriotic deeds of a compatriot in Japan.

Chairman Kim Jong Il, identical to President Kim Il Sung, saw to it that a disposable syringe factory was built on the bank of the scenic Taedong River during the arduous march, thus successfully realized the plan of President Kim Il Sung and sent many medical facilities of the highest level to the medical service bases.

Today the public health service of Juche Korea greeted a new period of change thanks to the respected General Secretary who is translating into practice the noble wishes of President Kim Il Sung and Chairman Kim Jong Il who bestowed affection on people.

The respected General Secretary personally initiated the construction of a modern medical oxygen factory urgently needed for the public health sector, chose the site of the factory to be a prominent place in the suburbs of Pyongyang and solved all problems arising in the construction one by one.

The factory was built wonderfully thanks to his meticulous care and energetic guidance who gave valuable instructions on the construction of the factory, saying that the factory should be built at the highest level in order to produce high-quality medical oxygen and send it to hospitals.

He said that we should make sure that our people feel real under the social benefits such as the socialist health system, not in words or in books that the socialist system is good, we have a lot of work to do, but we pay primary attention to the public health sector because our public health is the face of the socialist system and the life and health of the people is a very important work for fully displaying the advantages of the socialist health system of our country where the Party and the state take full responsibility for and care of the people. Thanks to his tireless efforts and great patriotic devotion for the people, such modern medical institutions as Breast Tumour Institute of Pyongyang Maternity Hospital, Okryu Children's Hospital and Ryugyong Dental Hospital and have been built, fully demonstrating the advantages of the socialist public health system.

Thanks to the wise and seasoned guidance of the respected General Secretary who regards the public health of Juche Korea as the face of the socialist system and makes it the most popular and progressive one and the world-level one, the immortal exploits performed by President Kim Il Sung and Chairman Kim Jong Il for the development of public health will shine forever and hurrah for the Workers' Party will resound on this land for years.
