The paralysis after cerebral apoplexy has become a disease of big trouble in human life caused by the hemiplegia accompanied with facial paralysis and dysphasia originating from cerebral neurocell damage of different degrees through cerebral hemorrhage and cerebral thrombosis. Cerebral apoplexy was supposed to occur at the ages of 50~70; but it occurs at middle ages of 40 very highly and even at the age of 30 the morbidity is becoming high.
Cerebral apoplexy is not uncommon in the clinics; once it occurs, it brings high rate of disability; the recovery is difficult; therefore many researchers are concerned.
At present there are various methods for the treatment of cerebral apoplexy, such as chemical medicine, Koryo herbal therapy, acupuncture, physical therapy and functional therapy.
A lot of researches have been carried out to treat the paralysis after cerebral apoplexy; but their effective rate was not high; side effect of medicine appeared and patients often found the functional therapy difficult to receive.
The manual therapy chair, Pyongyang medical college,
The research group was under 25days after the occurrence of the disease; 50 cases diagnosed as cerebral apoplexy in clinical symptoms and objective tests; of which 25 cases for research group (combination of acupuncture, massage, functional therapy) and 25 cases for control group (group for medicine treatment.)
The acupuncture points were GV26, EX-HN1, GB20, BL10, LI15, TE14, LI11, LU5, PC6, LI4, EX-UE9, BL40, ST36, GB34, KI6, GB40, LR3, EX-LE10; then retained for 30 minutes.
For massages, ten minutes of light pushing, pressing, kneading, rubbing on head and neck and then ten minutes of rubbing, kneading, pushing of arms and legs and then two or three types of passive joint motion according to patients to do themselves the exercises on the beds; rising, sitting and other functional exercises appropriate to condition of patient.
The research group received first acupuncture and then massage and functional therapy; the control group received medicine with self-exercise therapy.
Patients received therapy once a day for 10 days (a therapeutic period).
After 5 days rest a new period started.
All patients were treated 3 periods.
The result was as high as a total effective rate of 96.6% when acupuncture, massage and functional therapy are combined to cure paralysis after cerebral apoplexy; the average therapeutic date was 29.32±0.14 days.
We will display the superiority of the best socialist public health system of our country more highly by further exploring the treatment methods of appropriate Korean traditional medicine therapies to treat paralysis after cerebral apoplexy.
