Chairman
"Pyongyang, the capital of the revolution, is the centre of cultured language that has ensured the preservation and development of the national characteristics of our spoken and written language in their purest form. If the present Pyongyang dialect, a new development, is taken as the standard, it will be possible to sustain the purity and Juche character of our language and develop it in a sound way."
With a deep insight into the importance and significance of developing the national language and improving the everyday language in the revolution and construction, Chairman
In many works including "On Juche Literature", "On the Art of the Cinema", "Programmatic Guidelines that Illuminated the Road of Juche-oriented Development of the Korean Language", "On Establishing a Juche Orientation in Everyday Language", "Let Us Enhance the Cultured Level in Everyday Language", and "On the Problems of Language and Nation", he comprehensively systematized the Juche-oriented theory of linguistics and illuminated the road to be followed by it.
He ensured that linguistics positively contributed to solving the practical problems for ensuring that linguistics developed the national language in a Juche-oriented way and for improving the people's everyday language.
To sustain the national characteristics of language and improve the people's everyday language is a law-governed requirement for developing the national language and an inevitable requirement for the establishment of the socialist way of life. This is an urgent task facing linguistics at present.
Linguistics must not be divorced from the people's everyday language, as its object is the language the people use in their everyday life.
It should naturally pay primary attention to solving the practical problems in everyday language and regard it as its important mission to guide their everyday language along a correct road.
In the past, the Korean language failed to take a normal path of its development owing to its peculiarity, and the people's everyday language could not preserve the national identity under the rule of Japanese imperialism.
In this situation, the linguistic field had to pay due attention to the practical problems of eliminating the linguistic remnants left by the old society, developing the Korean language in the right direction and improving the people's everyday language.
First, Chairman
He ensured that great efforts were directed to developing the Korean language in a Juche-oriented way by giving full play to its national characteristics.
He ensured that the field of linguistics proved scientifically and theoretically the unitary and intrinsic features of the Korean language with a long history and preserve its purity.
He also saw to it that the work of recompiling the vocabulary was pushed forward with a deep understanding of the importance of the work in developing the Korean language on a Juche-oriented basis, and set a brilliant example in this work.
On several occasions he pointed out some sycophantic expressions remaining in the Korean language, and said that the field of linguistics should properly preserve the peculiar and excellent characters of the language in conformity with the features of a powerful socialist country.
Next, he wisely led linguistics to make a positive contribution to developing the people's everyday language.
Though busy with his revolutionary leadership activities, he gave instructions on solving in a scientific way the problems arising in improving the people's everyday language, such as building a new culture in language, improving spacing in written language and actively sustaining the Pyongyang cultured language.
As the work of developing the Korean language in a Juche-oriented way and improving the people's everyday language has been pushed ahead successfully, the language is displaying its national characteristics on a level higher than ever before, and a proper way of sustaining the Pyongyang cultured language has been established among the people.
