Saying That The Province Can Stand On Its Own Feet When Even The Orangchon Power Station Has Been Built

Chairman Kim Jong Il said:

"If we solve the problem of electricity, we shall be able to quickly develop rail transport, the metal industry, the machine-building industry and all other sectors of the national economy."

With the completion of Power Station No.3, the last project mapped out in the general plan for the construction of the Orangchon Power Station, on August 4, Juche111(2022), the behests of President Kim Il Sung and Chairman Kim Jong Il on building a large-scale power base by building cascaded power stations in the area were successfully implemented and a new springboard for developing the economy and improving the people's living in North Hamgyong Province has been prepared.

Earlier, President Kim Il Sung planned to build a power station in Orangchon and indicated the need to build a cascaded power station in a zigzag style and carefully examined its design several times.

This is how the construction of the power station began.

In the early days of the Arduous March, however, the construction of the power station stopped halfway, gradually losing its vigor. Already-tense power supply to the province became tenser. The officials in the province were frustrated by the obstacles and difficulties and were unable to carry on. Looking through this situation, Chairman Kim Jong Il examined the construction of the Orangchon Power Station and said, if North Hamgyong Province is to deal with the lack of electricity, the Orangchon Power Station must be completed in a short time and North Hamgyong Province can stand on its own feet when even the Orangchon Power Station is completed.

He took revolutionary measures to accelerate the construction of the Orangchon Power Station thus makes a positive contribution to easing the strain on electric power supply to the province.

In those arduous days, Chairman Kim Jong Il decided to push ahead with the construction of such large-scale power station as the Orangchon Power Station. It was a bold decision that no one could do but Chairman Kim Jong Il, the brilliant commander of Mt. Paektu.
