Leeks contain a lot of various nutrients as well as vitamins, amino acids and minerals. Leeks contain 2.36% of proteins, 0.51% of lipids, 4.3% of carbohydrates and 1.01% of minerals. Particularly it contains a plenty amount of essential amino acids such as lycine, cysteine, tryptophan and minerals such as Ca, Mg, K, Fe and Zn. 100g leeks also contain 1.8mg of carotin, 1.66mg of vitamin E, 48.2mg of vitamin C and a lot of other nutrients and therefore it is used as medicine for various purpose.
We investigated the effect of feeding assorted feed mixed with 3% of fresh leeks to cocks for 520 days from 720day-age to 200 day-age on the semen extractive period, amount of semen and sperm motility of cocks.
Emission period of semen was 115.1% higher, seminal ejaculation amount 131.8% higher, the number of sperm per 1㎖ spermatic fluid 121.6%higher in leek-treatment group than in control group.
Sperm motility in the treatment group was 118.4% higher than that in control group.
These research results showed leeks have got a noteworthy utilization value in enhancing the utilization rate of seed cock.
