In Juche 73(1984), at the height of West Sea Barrage construction, He assigned the officials the task to erect a monument to make builders' feats go down forever in the history.
According to the history, monuments serve as the most valuable commendation to the ones with outstanding exploits for their motherland, nation, era and the humanity.
He intended that not only a few heroes but also all the builders had the honor and it made their feats leave forever unforgotten in the memory of motherland and the people.
He chose the construction site, checked the blueprints many times, thus gave a dedicate leadership to complete the monuments on the highest possible level.
In March, Juche 74(1985), the Chairman carefully examined the blueprint of the West Sea Barrage made by the Mansudae Art Studio appreciated Plan 1 for entrance of the barrage at the Ryongnam-ri side and saw to it that the right hand of the person in the center of the group statue raised up in the air should stretch forward in the same way as the hand of the person right to him holding a banner.
He approved Plan 1 for the monument group statue at the gateway at the Unryul-ri side as well. He stressed to set up the historic monument recorded of the exploits of leadership of both President
Actually, due to the lack of time and too high cost of materials like stone and labor, the officials were going to build a cement monument.
The Chairman said that as the West Sea Barrage is the monumental structure second to none in the world, its monument has to be the best so that it can go down forever from generation to generation together with the barrage construction history. He added that if they were going to build a rough-and-ready cement monument, there must be a problem with their attitude towards the builders including soldiers. He emphasized with warmth to build up a stone monument at any cost.
Thanks to the warm love of Chairman willing to make the soldiers' merits honorable, the monument to the Construction of the West Sea Barrage was built on a perfect level.
The monument of the construction of the West Sea Barrage consists of a memorial tower, a historic monument and decorating monuments to the West Sea Barrage.
The memorial tower standing at the top of the Isle Pi is a two-storey building resembling an enormous cargo ship combined with the tower body in the shape of an anchor, so that it could be easily found by barrage visitors in a distance, even.
