A Model of the Socialist Modern City in the Mountains

All the people across the country are vigorously waging the general struggle for the full-scale development of the socialist construction of our style, which was ushered in by the historic 8th Congress of the Workers' Party of Korea, recollecting with deep emotion the great devotion and efforts of the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un who turned Samjiyon City into a model of the socialist modern city in the mountains.

The respected Comrade Kim Jong Un said:

"We should lay out Samjiyon County well to add eternal lustre to General Kim Jong Il's revolutionary career and exploits and ensure that cheering for the Workers' Party and for socialism starts resounding in the first village under Mt Paektu, the sacred place of our revolution."

It is the reasonable obligation and revolutionary duty of the soldiers and devoted followers of Chairman Kim Jong Il to build Samjiyon City on the highest standard as required by the era and the developing revolution.

In the new century of Juche, Samjiyon city has undergone tremendous changes as a socialist paradise and a model of the provincial city with the envy of the world, which is a brilliant fruition of the noble moral obligation, energetic leadership and enthusiastic love for people of General Secretary Kim Jong Un who intends to add eternal lustre to the immortal revolutionary career and exploits of Chairman Kim Jong Il for all ages.

He unfolded a far-reaching plan for the construction of Samjiyon City and provided energetic guidance over it so as to make it an all-party, all-state and all-people work.

While visiting the Samjiyon Revolutionary Battle Site in November, Juche 102(2013), he organized a powerful construction unit with establishing a well-planned system and clarified all the problems arising in the construction such as its target, period and the supply of equipment, materials and funds, saying that the construction of Samjiyon City was the important work for defending the courtyard of the native home of Chairman Kim Jong Il.

In September, Juche 105(2016) he saw to it that the statue of Chairman Kim Jong Il was respectfully erected in Samjiyon City and at the end of November that year he came to the spot to provide energetic guidance over the grand construction campaign for building Samjiyon City as a grand open-air museum for education in the revolutionary traditions and a model and standard across the country.

He drew up a plan to make the construction completely new and bold as required by the new century and brought about a great change.

In December Juche 106(2017), he gave field guidance to Samjiyon City despite the bitter cold of midwinter, presenting a bright blueprint for building it as a base for education in the revolutionary traditions and turning it into a model of the mountainous city representing the civilization of the era of the Workers' Party of Korea, and clarified one by one important guidelines for making it a standard of modern architecture by thoroughly applying Korean-first architectural idea and Juche-oriented architectural aesthetic idea.

No place in the design plan is beyond his reach as he pointed out the issue of forming a modern street with the main road in front of the statue as the central axis, the one of making it clear to distinguish the education block, apartment block, local industry block from others, the one of eliminating similarities and repetitions in conformity with the features of mountainous area and the use of each building, etc.

Although he is so busy with all the important affairs of the country, he saw in great detail more than 8 800 design plans to be presented at any time, even at midnight or early in the morning, and corrected even the fine depictions, giving the designers new criteria and insights.

He, who personally became a designer, a contractor and a construction master, visited the site three times in Juche 107 (2018) and twice in Juche 108 (2019) to provide the guidance over the construction even regardless of the rainy mud path, the midsummer heat and the midwinter snowstorm. Thanks to his unstinting devotion and effort, Samjiyon City, in which the party's Juche-oriented aesthetic idea of architecture was successfully embodied, was splendidly built as the standard of the mountainous city and the epitome of the socialist civilization since nationality, modernity and the character of the northern highland were well combined and utility, diversity and formative and artistic beauty of every building were fully realized on the principle of prioritizing convenience and aesthetic beauty.

After building up the township in Samjiyon City, he energetically led the three-stage project for reconstructing the farms and areas around it in a modern way.

Following the completion of the township construction, a gigantic scale of project was dynamically conducted to build thousands of dwellings, public and production buildings, educational facilities, water supply and drainage systems, roads, green areas and transmission line systems in more than 10 dongs and ris in Samjiyon City including the Paektusanmilyong dong, Rimyongsu dong, Mudubong dong, Barrage No 5 dong, Phothae dong, Junghung ri, Hunggyesu ri, Sobaeksan ri, Paeksam ri, Poso ri and Thongsin ri, in accordance with the plan and policy of the Party Central Committee on renovating the surrounding areas and farms in the city in three stages.

In November, Juche110(2021), he acquainted himself with the process of three-stage project on the spot and showed great appreciation of the fact that the environment and the specific character of the local area were well preserved and utility, diversity, formative and artistic beauty of all the buildings were fully realized in conformity with the Party's Juche-oriented aesthetic idea of architecture and the policy on the provincial construction, while inspecting some construction projects in the city, such as Junghung Farm and dwelling houses, educational facilities, cultural and welfare facilities and lodging houses for study tourists in Paektusanmilyong dong, Rimyongsu dong and Phothae dong.

Under the wise leadership of the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un, a fresh turn was made in the work for building Samjiyon City as an immense edifice for the education in revolutionary traditions and as befitting the home town of Chairman Kim Jong Il, and not only the township but also several districts and farms around it were turned into models of socialist modern cities in the mountain and standard of rural development.

As a result, the unshakable faith and will of our party and people to remain loyal to the leader forever and glorify the revolutionary exploits of the leader for all ages were demonstrated and the basic guarantee for carrying forward and accomplishing the revolutionary cause of Juche was definitely provided.

Indeed, Samjiyon City, the sacred place of the sun where the native home of the revolution is situated, was turned into a powerful base for education in the revolutionary traditions and a model of a modern city in the mountain. This is a great feat that can be achieved only by the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un who has a noble moral obligation to Chairman Kim Jong Il and has genius wisdom and extraordinary leadership ability.

Thanks to the extraordinary leadership ability of the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un, the might of the harmonious whole of the Party and the people and the iron will and indomitable spiritual strength of all the people to achieve prosperity their own way and by their own efforts, Chairman Kim Jong Il's desire to build a powerful socialist country will surely be realized and the victory of the socialist construction of our own style will surely be brought forward.
