Chairman
"Our officials, whenever they hear what Comrade
It was the principle consistently maintained by President
In Juche 40 (1951) when the fierce Korean war was at the height, he foresaw the future of the country to be victorious and organized a research group for synthetic rubber and instructed that a research on synthetic rubber should be conducted.
Research on synthetic rubber production was not easy. Although some countries succeeded in producing synthetic rubber, the technical data were different from country to country and they kept it secret to each other. Thus, they had few reference data for the research of synthetic rubber.
After a laborious study, the research group succeeded in synthesizing the monomer of rubber some time later and, on this basis, worked out a plan for the factory with a production capacity of 10 000 tons.
One day in May Juche 47(1958), being reported about it, the President called a scientist responsible for the research to the Central Committee of the WPK and learned about the progress made in the research.
He was told that the monomer synthesized by the research group was from alcohol made from potatoes or sweet potatoes, and asked how many tons of potatoes should be fermented to make the desired amount of rubber.
Hearing the answer, he walked round the room for a while in deep thought and said that in a country producing a lot of potatoes, they could make rubber from potato alcohol. But it would be impossible to do so in the DPRK where there were many mountains and the area of arable land was limited, and that people should eat potatoes.
After a while, he earnestly said that we could not make rubber from food in the country that was not yet rich in food and that it was what we had emphasized to produce carbide from anthracite and limestone abundant in the country and to produce organic synthetic products since the days directly after the liberation, adding strictly that the research group hadn't surely establish Juche.
His voice was not high, but it was criticism about not establishing Juche, the basic question in the research.
The President asked why they thought that the synthetic fiber monomer was made from the carbide, whereas the synthetic rubber monomer was not able to be extracted from it.
These words clearly indicated the basis and the new orientation for the new start.
When he was told that they would synthesize high-quality rubber with carbide, the President said that they had thought very well and he was so pleased, and that it was death to blindly follow the accepted theory in scientific research and asked them to think and research in a Juche-oriented way, and also to value the Juche-oriented view of research as their life. He added that was the key to solve the problem.
Being taught by the President, the scientist keenly felt once again how important it was to establish Juche in scientific research.
Thanks to his scientific wisdom and wise leadership, the research group restarted its work and was able to made high-quality synthetic rubber based on domestic raw materials.
The President was much more pleased with it than anyone else and called him again on November 4th, Juche 52(1963) and was told about technological specifications, material condition and production cost per ton of the new synthetic rubber. He said the rubber was good for the specific conditions of the country and warmly continued with great satisfaction that it was the result of the establishment of Juche, and that he was very pleased to hear that the problem of rubber was solved.
Noting that the members of the research group had done a great deal, the President praised them highly for the successful results of the research, without thinking of his own efforts and devotion to it.
Indeed, the success of the synthetic rubber research was a brilliant fruition of the extraordinary wisdom and wise leadership of President
