The "Crack" Unit of the Japanese Army in the Midst of a Fire

President Kim Il Sung is an ever-victorious iron-willed brilliant commander who defeated the gangster-like Japanese imperialists by employing outstanding guerrilla tactics during the arduous anti-Japanese armed struggle.

Chairman Kim Jong Il said:

"Comrade Kim Il Sung created unexcelled military strategies and guerrilla tactics, believing that an enemy superior in terms of military technology could be prevailed over by means of political, ideological, strategic and tactical superiority, and he inflicted death on and struck terror into the Japanese aggressor army at every step by dint of his adroit military tactics of appearing from out of nowhere and disappearing again."

It happened in the defensive campaign of the Xiaowangqing guerrilla base in April, Juche 22(1933).

Knowing that the headquarters of the Korean revolution was in the Xiaowangqing guerrilla base, the Japanese army used cavalry, artillery and airplanes to attack the Xiaowangqing guerrilla base from three sides with over 1 500 troops.

On the first day, more than 500 of the Japanese "crack" unit, who had invaded the guerrilla base, were killed in an ambush of the guerrillas and paramilitary members who had occupied the right and left ridges on the narrow, deep unforked road of the Mt.Ppyojok valley, the entrance to the Xiaowangqing Valley.

The next day, in an attempt to make up for the defeat, the enemy changed tactics and made another attack with over 500 troops to Mt.Ppyojok like the day before, another over 500 ones in combination with the cavalry to the Mt.Mopan in Dawangqing and over 500 ones to Macun from Jiapigou, the rear of it. It was the "intention" to occupy Macun easily by attacking from three sides simultaneously and dispersing the forces of the Anti-Japanese people's guerrilla unit.

Seeing through the enemy's sinister intention, the President immediately put forward tactics to destroy it.

The President commanded the first platoon of the first company on the Mt.Ppyojok to advance quickly to the southwestern mountain pass of Macun after striking and frustrating the enemy and defeat the enemy who was going to make a detour toward Macun in the proper place, the third platoon of the second company to defeat the enemy who was going to approach Mt.Mopan and the main forces of the first company to drive the enemy's main forces into the narrow valley of Macun District and annihilate them with a powerful fire.

On his orders, the first platoon of the first company on the Mt.Ppyojok valley struck and dispirit the enemy, and then slipped out into the thick forest and defeated the enemy which had diverted lying in ambush at the entrance. Thus, the enemy "occupied" the position easily on the Mt.Ppyojok, but the diverted troops were killed.

The enemy's main forces, having "occupied" the empty position, invaded Macun with four trucks, but the leading truck was trapped in the obstacles laid by the juvenile vanguards and the following ones were also stopped.

Meanwhile, the third platoon of the second company, which was moved in stealth as instructed by the President, dealt a powerful blow to the enemies approaching Mt.Mopan and thus struck terror into the hearts of the enemy.

Then the enemy, realizing that the situation became unfavorable, called in two planes to drop blind bombs flying round over Macun, but to no avail.

When it was dark, the enemy stopped the attacks and rushed into Dafangzi, a lower village of Macun to prepare for camping.

Saying that a breathing spell shouldn't be given to them, the President soon organized raid teams. The raid teams, each of which consisted of four or five men, entered the enemy base and struck the enemies. In the dark, the enemies were killed more by the guns on their side than by the guns of the guerrillas.

On the third day the battles were more victorious.

The enemies who had come from the Jiapigou, the rear of the guerrilla base, were stuck in the deep forest, so they only reached Macun on that day. But the enemy who had been beaten several times and frightened in the direction of the Mt.Ppyojok rained a heavy fire on them thinking that they were guerrillas. So, they used machine guns to kill themselves for two hours. Later, they knew that they were fighting among themselves and stopped firing and got into trouble criticizing each other. At that time, the President, looking down at the enemy's behaviours on the hillside, issued an order to fire. They were again in a heavy fire.

Although it took the enemies two days to come into the valley of Xiaowangqing as they piled up the dead bodies at every step, they disappeared without shadows in only an hour when escaping. All of over 1 500 of the Japanese "crack" unit were killed by the President's adroit military tactics of appearing from out of nowhere and disappearing again.

That's why the enemies, who were defeated completely in the "Spring" punitive operation, screamed, "If entering the red zone, all the mountains and streams, plants and trees look like the guerrillas."

The battle to defend Xiaowangqing which was fought under the leadership of President Kim Il Sung demonstrated the might and brilliant tactics of the Anti-Japanese People's Guerrilla Army to the world and dealt a heavy blow to the Japanese imperialist aggressors who went on a rampage of "punitive" actions against the headquarters of the Korean revolution.
