Bringing home the valuable truth about the position and role of women

 2021.12.8.

The great leader Comrade Kim Il Sung said:

"In our country the women are carrying half the revolutionary burden."

Among the immortal exploits made by the great leader Comrade Kim Il Sung, who opened up the Juche-oriented Korean women's movement during the arduous anti-Japanese revolutionary struggle and established the glorious traditions of the women's movement, there is a moving story in which he clarified the valuable truth about the position and role of women in the revolutionary struggle and construction at the beginning of the Korean revolution.

It was one autumn day, Juche 19(1930).

President Kim Il Sung came to the field of Guyushu to harvest rice with the peasants. The peasants felt cheerful to have rice harvest with President Kim Il Sung.

Not long after he started his work, President Kim Il Sung took the lead of the peasants.

At noon, women came out to the field with lunch.

While having meals with the peasants, he disclosed the vicious exploitation of the Japanese imperialist aggressors and landlords, and called on the peasants to turn out in the struggle to drive the Japanese imperialist aggressors out of the homeland in order to do farming to their hearts' content and feed their family members.

That afternoon the peasants did not feel tired in harvesting, singing the revolutionary songs they learned during the break from the members of the Korean Revolutionary Army on the instructions of the President.

When they were coming back to the village after sunset, one of the wheels of the cart in front full of rice sheaves, fell into the ditch.

Some of the men who were following the cart tried to pull it out in vain.

The cart under full loads, would not come out, as it had fallen deep into the ditch.

They had to ask the women at the back for help.

The women clung to the cart with jokes to the men for their asking.

Then the cart came out easily.

President Kim Il Sung heard the conversation between them, and said that they had wrong opinion that men should do everything because they were men while women could not do everything because they were women.

He went on to say that the struggle for independence of Korea could be performed better only by pooling the strength of the women who made up half the population, just as the carts are rolling well only when there are two wheels, and that we should drive the Japanese imperialists out by the united efforts of 20 million Koreans and achieve the independence of the country.

He said with smile, but there was a great sensation in the hearts of the listeners.

From the common social phenomenon, the great leader brought home to them the valuable truth that the liberation of the country should be achieved by the united efforts of 20 million Koreans, not by some qualified forerunners and organizations, and that if the women who had lived a miserable life with double or treble oppression and exploitation under the colonial rule of the Japanese imperialists were to took part in the revolution, they could exert a great strength.

His instructions that the strength of one person is insignificant, but the united strength of 20 million Koreans is great and women should turn out in the struggle for the liberation of the country were deeply impressed on the mind of the people.

Under the wise leadership of President Kim Il Sung, the Korean women in the period of the anti-Japanese revolutionary struggle vigorously struggled for the liberation of the country and for the women's liberation in the anti-Japanese armed units and different revolutionary organizations, and under the wise leadership of the great leaders the Juche-oriented Korean women's movement recorded a history of victory and glory at every step of the revolutionary development.
