A Historic Event That Marked a New Occasion In The Development of the Friendly Relations Between the DPRK and Russia

Chairman Kim Jong Il said:

"Korea and Russia are neighbours who have maintained traditional friendly relations for a long time. The development of these relations fully accords with the interests of the peoples of the two countries, and is of great significance in ensuring peace and security in Asia and the rest of the world. We set great store by the friendship between Korea and Russia, and pay close attention to the development of relations between the two countries."

The relations between the DPRK and Russia, neighboring countries, are the traditional ones of friendship which have been firmly linked in every storm of history with deep and strong roots.

The traditional DPRK-Russia friendly relations entered a new stage of development in April, Juche 108 (2019) five years ago with the historic event of the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un's official visit to the Russian Federation and his first meeting with President Putin.

At the historic meeting with President Putin, the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un agreed on the specific orientation and measures for further increasing mutual understanding, trust, friendship and cooperation and promoting the development of the DPRK-Russia friendly relations aspiring after the new century, and discussed the immediate issues of cooperation in earnest and reached a satisfactory agreement. They also exchanged successes and experience gained in the state-building process, shared views on the situation on the Korean peninsula and other issues arising in the field of international relations with each other, and exchanged opinions to control the situation jointly.

The respected Comrade Kim Jong Un had the first historic meeting with President Putin in Vladivostok City of the Russian Federation and established good friendly relation with him and further strengthened the ties of traditional DPRK-Russia friendship. This marked a significant and important occasion in ushering in a new history of DPRK-Russia friendship in conformity with the changing international situation at present.

With this as an occasion, the DPRK-Russia friendly relations that have maintained through centuries and generations are now developing in depth in the interests of the two countries.

The 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the DPRK and Russia was significantly celebrated on October 12, Juche 107 (2018) and the next year witnessed the celebration of the 70th anniversary of the conclusion of the agreement on economic and cultural cooperation between the two countries. This proves the fact that the atmosphere of developing the bilateral relations is growing stronger.

To continue to develop the friendly relations between the DPRK and Russia with a long history and tradition is in full accord with the desire, demands and interests of the peoples of the two countries and is of great significance in ensuring peace and security in Asia and the rest of the world.

Therefore, the Party and the Government of the DPRK continue to pay deep attention to valuing the DPRK-Russia friendship and developing the relations between the two countries.

The common purpose of the two countries to oppose the interference and pressure from outside and defend the sovereignty of the countries is a major factor in expanding and developing their friendly relations.

In the future, too, Korean people will value the feelings of friendship between the two countries, further develop the friendly relations with Russia and make positive efforts to realize the common ideal and desire.
