Kindling the Torch for the Overall Automation of the National Economy

 2024.6.17.

The respected Comrade Kim Jong Un said:

"We should invariably hold up President Kim Il Sung and General Kim Jong Il forever as the sun of Juche, staunchly championing and adding eternal brilliance to their immortal revolutionary exploits."

About 50 years ago, at the 5th Congress of the Workers' Party of Korea, President Kim Il Sung declared the historic victory of socialist industrialization in the country, set forth the line of the three major technological revolutions and important tasks for widely introducing automation and semi-automation in all fields of the national economy to implement it.

In hearty response to the important tasks of the President on realizing the automation and semi-automation of production processes in all fields of the national economy, Chairman Kim Jong Il opened up a new history of automation to free the working people from difficult and hard work forever.

First of all, he ensured that officials had a correct understanding of the technological revolution after socialist industrialization.

In early August 1972, the Chairman said that the main feature of technological revolution in the period of socialist industrialization was to replace physical labor with machine labor, whereas for the technological revolution in the period after socialist industrialization was realized was to make a machine to move another and to realize the overall automation of all sectors of the national economy.

He also clarified the essence and purpose of automation to be carried out in all fields of the national economy and the principled issues for its realization.

In his talk to senior officials of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea on January 28, 1973, "Let Us Automate Production and Free the Working People from Hard Labor", he said that the automation done by capitalists is not man-centred but money-centred, that capitalists automate new factories, but the old ones do not automate the old ones, no matter how severe the high-heat and harmful labor may be, and that the modernization and automation of new factories by capitalists is to make more profits and not for the workers.

The Chairman clarified the essence and purpose of the automation of production processes in our country as a high-level technological revolution for completely freeing the working people from difficult and hard work.

He clarified in detail the principled matters arising in implementing the overall automation including setting Hwanghae Iron Works as a model unit, blazing a trail for generalization, training a large number of technical personnel in the field of automation to be carried out in the future, building up automation equipment, elements, automation gauges and machine production bases, developing automation engineering and electronics. He also organized a powerful automation promotion group with competent technical personnel and dispatched it to Hwanghae Iron Works.

After that, the Chairman clarified the goal and stages of automation of the Hwanghae Iron Works, which will be a model unit for overall automation.

He set it as the goal of automation of the Hwanghae Iron Works to build it at the highest level that automation can attain and indicated the tasks for its implementation.

The first stage was to realize closed-circuit TV and wireless technology to make officials and working people realize the delicacy of automation and accumulate experience and the second stage was to remotely control relatively simple production processes such as bereavement so that working people can do automation by their own efforts. The third stage was to completely relieve the working people from high heat and harmful labor by remotely controlling complex production processes of more than two processes in workshops such as May 14 Workshop, Sintering Furnace Workshop, Coke Oven Workshop and also all other furnaces and open-hearth furnaces.

Not only finishing the automation of one or two production processes, but he ensured that all production processes were automated and remotely controlled so that all production processes of the works were fully automated.

Comprehensive automation is a great revolution in industry to develop our economy as desired by the President and a very honorable and responsible undertaking to realize our Party's far-reaching plan to completely liberate our people from difficult and arduous labour.

Afterwards, Chairman Kim Jong Il wisely led the struggle for automation of the Hwanghae Iron Works to create a model unit for all-round automation of the national economy and organized a nationwide automation demonstration at the Hwanghae Iron Works to kindle the flames of automation across the country.

As a result, a new history of technological revolution was created in our country as early as 1970s to free the working people from difficult and arduous labour.

Indeed, Chairman Kim Jong Il was the benevolent father of the Korean people who devoted all his heart and soul to freeing all the working people from difficult and arduous labour.
