The scientists of the Virological research institute, Pyongyang medical college,
Especially, they have developed various vaccines for protection of several virus infections on a high level of technology, to make a contribution to practice of public health.
In recent years, Li Sung Ik, a Labor Hero, a candidate academician, Prof.& Dr. and others were awarded "2.16 Scientific and Technological Innovation Prize" by developing avian influenza subunit (H5) vaccine on our own technology.
This subunit vaccine developed by using the purification and concentration of virus and hemagglutin by ultrafiltration had no general and local side effects, the positive rate of antibody with the titer of 1:32 is 93.3%, and the average titer of antibody was over 6.6(-log2).
They had developed the Rabies Tissue Culture Vaccine by using Vero cell and specific purification and concentration, this vaccine have the prevention of 100%, and introduced to production, drew much advantage from it.
They had isolated 11 strains of novel influenza virus (H1N1) in Juche 99(2010), and identified the homology of 99.3% with California strain. They have no cross-reactivity with classic H1N1 strain, and no differences in the antigenic structures between these isolates.
With theses isolates, they have conducted the study for development of split vaccine. When this vaccine was administered at the 2 doses of 0.2mL intradermally, there was no side-effect, and the antibody response rate of the vaccine was 90.9%.
They had presented this result in several symposiums including International Symposium of
They developed "Pyong-50", "Pyong-85", "Pyong-95", "Pesun", the new cell strains for the basic medical study and vaccine development, and contributed to the practice of science and research and now they make it perfect.
At the moment, the scientists in this institute are making their great effort to improve the quality of Japaneses encephalitis tissue culture vaccine (dry) and to develop many kinds of vaccines available for the health of the people including the Measles-Mumps-Rubella vaccine (MMR), enterovirus 71 vaccine, rotavirus vaccine, Ebola vaccine and so on.
