Great Trust for the young people

In every page of the history of the Korean youth movement which has trodden a proud road under the care of the illustrious commanders of Mt. Paektu are recorded numerous grand monuments shining with the name "youth" and their heroic feats.

However, both the world-startling miracles of history and proud feats are unthinkable without the great trust and loving care of the peerlessly great men.

The respected Comrade Kim Jong Un said:

"The Paektusan Hero Youth Power Station is associated with General Kim Jong Il's ardent love for young people, the future of the country, a proud structure demonstrating the might of our Party's policy of attaching importance to young people."

Whenever watching the Youth Dam of the Power Station No. 1 with the words "Heroic" and "Youth" deeply engraved around the torch in burning flames symbolic of the baton of the revolutionary cause of Juche and the Paektusan Hero Youth Power Station built as a grand youth monument of the era of the Workers' Party, I come to think of the benevolent image of the great General who left the traces of devotion in chilly area of Mt. Paektu concerned for the problem of electricity in Samjiyon area.

While giving on-the-spot guidance to the Samjiyon area on Oct. 7th, Juche 91 (2002), Chairman Kim Jong Il looked round the newly built dwelling houses.

In fact, Samjiyon County(then) was then using the electricity supplied from the state. Although various small-and medium-sized power stations were built in the Rimyongsu and Phothae districts, they capacity was not enough except for the lighting for dwelling houses in the surrounding areas and it was really difficult to solve the electricity problem in the densely populated township of Samjiyon County. On hearing the answer of the hostess that she used electricity for cooking, the great General said that electrical heating should be applied to the dwelling houses as it was extremely cold and the residents would bother to get coal or wood for fire all the year round. He went on to say that the well-built houses, if not electrically heated, could not be seen as perfect houses and that the main task for Samjiyon County was to address the issue of electricity.

Indeed, the issue of electricity in the Samjiyon area at the foot of Mt. Paektu associated with the immortal revolutionary exploits of the great Leaders was important in improving the people's living standard and defending and glorifying the revolutionary traditions of the Party.

With deep insight into the problem of electricity in the Samjiyon area, the great General initiated the construction of a large-scale hydroelectric power station in the Paegam area of Ryanggang Province on June 2nd, Juche 93 (2004) and entrusted this honorable task to the young people.

It was a very important project of building three power stations by blocking the headwaters of River Sodu to supply electricity to the revolutionary battle sites and historic sites in Samjiyon County and other areas of Mt. Paektu. It was the most difficult and huge project as the first in the history of building hydroelectric power stations in our country in terms of climate, natural and geographical conditions of the northern part and its scale.

In hearty response to the great trust of the great General, the young people came to the fronts of Mt. Paektu adjacent to Mt. Paektu, the holy place of the revolution from all over the country and performed the first blasting for the construction of the power station in July that year.

They built new roads for dozens of kilometers, completed the foundation project, and built the dam of the power station, digging for a waterway tunnel inch by inch amid the chilly rain and snow and the severe cold of the northern area.

The great General, though busy with the leadership of the revolution, gave more than ten teachings and more than 100 valuable instructions on the construction of the power station. Since the start of the project, he had inquired in detail about the construction, took measures for solving difficult problems there so that the members of the youth shock brigade might not sit back in the face of ordeals and difficulties, gave them strength and courage, and the direction and ways for building the power station. And he also sent them by special aircraft "Maanshan" padded clothes on the occasion of the 60th founding anniversary of the Youth League and honored the members of the brigade with membership of the WPK and high-level state orders for their merits in the construction.

On May 16, Juche 99(2010), Chairman Kim Jong Il visited the construction site of the Paektusan Songun Youth Power Station (at that time) on his return home from a foreign visit.

Looking around the construction site of the power station, the great General inquired in detail about the construction and praised them for having done a lot of work. He elucidated ways and directions to carry out the project by exploring to the maximum the reserves such as cement, equipment, raw materials and transport necessary for the project.

The great General highly appreciated the noble ideological and moral world and feats of the youth shock brigade members displaying to the full the revolutionary spirit of self-reliance with boundless loyalty to the Party and noble patriotism full of burning determination to carry out the huge power station construction by their own efforts despite the severe natural environment and harsh conditions, and had a photo taken with the commanding officers of the youth shock brigade and labor innovators.

Chairman Kim Jong Il, firmly believing in the young people, entrusted them with the sacred area of Mt. Paektu as the stage of struggle and repeatedly rendered loving care and benevolence to them, devoting his all till the last moments of his revolutionary life.

The history of the precious trust and loving care of Kim Jong Il for the young people has been carried forward as the history of creating miracles and feats, a myth stunning the world and a myth of the Paektusan Hero Youth thanks to the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un's politics of attaching importance to the youth,.

On April 19, Juche 104(2015), the respected General Secretary visited the construction site of the power station. Looking back with deep emotion on the devoted efforts of Chairman Kim Jong Il who devoted himself to the construction of the power station, the eternal treasure of the country, he said that he valued more than 10 years for the construction the 10 years of struggle and growth of the young people who had indomitably fought in faith the Party's idea even in the severe cold with an earnest feeling of yearning for the great General. He has turned the struggle for building the power station into the process of revolutionary growth for training the youth to be imbued with the revolutionary spirit of Paektu, the spirit of Paektu blizzard.

The respected Comrade Kim Jong Un kept informed of the progress of the project day and night during the great battle of loyalty and called the entire people to the site of the fierce struggle and gave a sagacious leadership to it.

It was the respected General secretary that encouraged and wisely led the youth of Paektu in their struggle, visited the construction site of the power station several times thousands of miles away from the capital city to give prominence to the small work done by the young people and showed deep loving care for them and paid high tribute to them for their feats in the 70th founding anniversary of the glorious Workers' Party of Korea and the Seventh Congress of the WPK.

In addition, he saw to it that the exhibition of the Paektusan Hero Youth Feats be built to tell and retell the leadership exploits of the great General and the heroic feats of the young people as the precious treasure to be proudly recorded in the history of our Party and carried forward through generations. And on October 4th, Juche 104 (2015), he saw to it that "Memorial Medal of the Construction of Paektusan Hero Youth Power Station" be enacted to tell and retell the great services of the members of the youth brigade and other constructors who had built the Paektusan Hero Youth Power Station with credits as an everlasting creation, as a proud youth monument and the Party and state honors and honorary titles be conferred upon them, which was his greatest love and care for them.

Indeed, the deep trust and warm love of the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un were the spiritual source that enabled the members of the Paektusan Hero Youth Shock Brigade to devote their precious blood and sweat without hesitation or vacillation even in the cold of the north. The days and months of the struggle of creation and feats were the moving days and months showing how ardent and warm the love and trust of the WPK were for the young people.

Thanks to his warm love and deep trust the young people of Mt. Paektu completed the construction of the Paektusan Hero Youth Power Station as a monumental creation in the era of the Workers' Party in a little more than a year in the spirit of youth brigade and Paektusan hero youth, an embodiment of the offensive speed in the area of Mt. Paektu, where the Korean revolution had originated, and presented a report of completion, a report of loyalty to the great General and our Party.

Indeed thanks to the wise leadership of the respected General Secretary who infused great love and trust into our young people to glorify the original idea of attaching importance to youth and immortal exploits of the great Leader and the great General, to be in the van of the struggle for the ultimate victory in the building of a socialist powerful country and to grow as the heroes of the time, as the brave fighters, the proud history of the Korean youth movement brilliant with the dignified name of the great Sun will shine forever creating new heroic youth myths in succession along the course indicated by our Party.
