Always Placing Great Trust In The Economists Of New Korea

 2023.6.12.

Economics is aimed to contribute to promoting people's economic activities and developing the economy by interpreting socio-economic phenomena scientifically and theoretically.

If the mission of economics can be fulfilled, it is essential that economics should be focused on promoting the construction of the national economy by providing firm scientific and theoretical foundations for formulating and implementing economic policies of the Party and the state. If economists did not try to solve problems arising in implementing economic policies of the Party, being biased towards pure theories, economics would remain empty talk which was absolutely useless for the revolution and construction.

For this reason, President Kim Il Sung paid careful attention to training economists of new Korea and took revolutionary measures to encourage them to explore solutions to problems arising in reality and make an active contribution to implementing economic policies of the Party and the state.

Chairman Kim Jong Il said:

"Guided by the immortal Juche idea, President Kim Il Sung not only opened up a broad avenue for making a revolutionary turn in all fields of science but also presented the Juche-oriented methodology to be employed by our scientists in their work. He was so kind as to personally indicate directions and select titles for their research work, and solve many problems which had been unexplained in the building of the Juche-based science."

Before the liberation of the country, the Korean people did not have their own national economy due to the colonial ruling of the Japanese imperialists, hence it was impossible for them to study economics under the colonial oppression. Although there were a few people who had worked their way through school in Japan, what they had learned was capitalist economics at most.

In order to rebuild the economy severely damaged by the Japanese imperialists and develop economics, technicians and experts were urgently needed.

Therefore, while leading the building of a new country after the liberation, the President Kim Il Sung saw to it that new intellectuals of working-class origin should be trained quickly so that they could play the leading role in restoring and managing the national economy as well as researching into economic issues and developing economics.

During his on-the-spot guidance on factories and enterprises, he taught economic officials about how to manage and run factories, and led economists to carry out researches for finding solutions to immediate problems.

There was one time when he gave them an assignment personally on making a statistical form for controlling production and management of factories and enterprises. During those days, they were able to further consolidate their knowledge in practice.

When developing the first national economic plan, President Kim Il Sung assigned them to do it. At that time, some flunkeyists and misticists about technology did not believe in the economists of new Korea, insisting on inviting economists and economic advisors from other countries to draw up the plan.

However, President Kim Il Sung created a grand plan to develop the national industry by relying on the patriotic, creative and enthusiastic economists of new Korea who were determined to devote everything to the building of a new country.

Inspired by his great trust, they drew up a Juche 36 (1947) national economic plan, the country's first economic plan, by devoting all their knowledge and energy.

Immensely pleased with the completed national economic plan, President Kim Il Sung praised them for having made a right plan, and saw to it that a decision was adopted to carry it out without any changes.

Even during the hard-fought Fatherland Liberation War deciding the destiny of the nation, he took revolutionary measures to involve the economists in plan-making by the State Planning Commission, and led them to solve problems with great foresight in restoring and developing the national economy in the shortest possible period and building the socialist economy.

In accordance with the direction set by President Kim Il Sung, the economists continued their research project with great confidence and courage despite the difficulties of the war, and worked hard to solve theoretical and practical problems arising in post-war reconstruction and building of self-reliant national economy.

Thus, economics of the DPRK was pioneered and have been developed in Korean style by the Korean economists, under the outstanding leadership of President Kim Il Sung, having grown into a discipline entirely contributing to the revolution.
