 2023.3.2.

Looking back at the history of the great men recorded by mankind, there have been many famous celebrities and many mottos which were the guidelines of their lives. Among them are the great men who regarded the tireless struggle as their lifelong motto, the famous patriots who devoted themselves for their fatherlands with patriotism as their motto, and the great men who devoted their whole lives to the class liberation of the working class and social development, regarding it as their fighting creed that they should make a revolution in the support of the popular masses.

However, no great men or leaders have devoted their whole lives to the happiness of the people, regarding it as their lifelong motto to believe in the people as in heaven as President Kim Il Sung and Chairman Kim Jong Il.

The noble virtues and traits of the peerlessly great men who are praised as the benevolent sun of all people and incarnation of human love cannot be written in tens of thousands of books.

This essay is too narrow and constricted to convey the noble intention of believing in the people as in Heaven of the great leaders, but I want to proudly describe the history of the ardent love of the peerlessly great men with ardent love for the people, the history of their devoted efforts to the people, and that part of the great world.

1. The Roots of the Motto, Believing in People as in Heaven: The Great Family Tradition of Mangyongdae

The idea of believing in the people as in heaven, the lifelong motto of the President Kim Il Sung is literally the idea of worshipping them as sky.

From olden times people have regarded the sky as the "Creator" with mystical and infinite strength and the "master" of all things. The idea of believing in the people as in heaven that regards them as the most sacred beings is the man-centered idea, the people-centered idea that regards them as the most precious and powerful being.

The immortal Juche idea created by the President is precisely the idea based on believing in the people as in heaven, and it reflects the noble spirit of loving the people to trust the popular masses as the masters of the revolution and construction, faithfully serve for them and solve everything by relying on them.

Today the Korean people enjoy the most dignified and blessed life in the people-centered socialist system, being blessed with the leaders generation after generation.

The idea of believing in the people as in heaven which President Kim Il Sung regarded as his keynote and motto throughout his revolutionary leadership, Chairman Kim Jong Il further developed into the political idea and philosophy and the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un is brilliantly embodying as the people-first political idea is rooted in the great family tradition of the Mangyongdae family.

President Kim Il Sung said:

"What do I mean by my family tradition? I mean that to my family the country and the people are the most precious in the world and that they feel they must give their lives without the slightest hesitation for the good of the country. In short, it's their love for the country and the people, love for the nation."

The history of mankind tells many tales about famous families and their family traditions, which are known as illustrious families and respectable families, but there is no such a great popular family which regarded the noble human love and popular traits as the family traits generation and generation like the Mangyongdae family in which President Kim Il Sung was born and spent his childhood.

The soil in which the idea of believing in the people as in Heaven and the great love for the people, the lifelong motto and theory of President Kim Il Sung was rooted is none other than Mangyongdae family.

Believing in the people as in heaven was the family tradition and the motto of all the members of the great Mangyongdae family. It was the ideological and spiritual source that motivated the Mangyongdae family members to glorify their lives by relying on people and for them as the expression of the greatest love for the people.

It is the best tradition of the Mangyongdae family that all the family members fought without hesitation, thinking of the country and people before themselves and their families.

All the members of the great Mangyongdae family lived in poverty through the hardship of life, but they were exceptionally diligent and were very keen to help and think of their neighbors.

Once, Kim Po Hyon, grandfather of the great leader, regarded the misfortune of a poor house as his pain, and burdened all their debts and paid them suffering all kinds of hardships, and his grandmother also often helped the difficult houses, sharing even a meager meal for the neighbors who were in severe hunger although her family always had gruel for meals.

Like this grandparents' warm affection and friendship worked as models of the family members, so his father Kim Hyong Jik treated the working people who were suffering from sickness without getting a penny despite his family was so poor, and led them to the road of anti-Japanese independence. His mother Kang Pan Sok took care of the 6 lives of the neighbors who the others dared not to look after being fearful of the spread of the disease with great care, making fires in the furnace and feeding them with the thin rice gruel.

In this way, the Mangyongdae family members lived poor life in thatched houses for generations having gruel for meals, but they had many neighbors and were regarded by the people as benevolent family because they had the noble benevolence of helping and supporting each other between kinsmen and neighbors.

No family in the world would maintain the love for people and the love for others to sacrifice themselves as family philosophies and traditions, as in the Mangyongdae family, even in those days when people were getting more and more cold-hearted and all families were suffering from severe hardships in life.

There was something peculiar in this simple and ordinary family, and it was a tradition of ardent love for and devotion to the country and people.

The great Mangyongdae family was a revolutionary family that trained indomitable revolutionary fighters who volunteered to do everything for the country and fellow countrymen.

The noble virtue of the Mangyongdae family, which was a harmonious neighbor in the village, close friends to the comrades and loyal to the country, greatly influenced the formation of the outlook on the world of the President on believing in the people as in Heaven.

In particular, the grand patriotic act of the great-grandfather, who educated his children and villagers in the spirit of loving the country and the nation and took the lead in the struggle to defeat the foreign aggression ship, the saying of his grandfather that he could live without benevolence, though he could live without money, the people-centered idea and the Jiwon(Aim High) of his father that everything should be for the people and rely on the strength of the people, his mother's saying that a man is not short of money but short of life, these are all unprecedented family philosophy and family precepts that made President Kim Il Sung have the noble love for people, generosity and virtues and consolidate the idea of believing the people as in heaven as the ideal and motto.

As the great Mangyongdae family had such patriotic and popular family traits, all the family members could dedicate themselves to the sacred war for the independence of the country and the liberation of the nation.

So, in his reminiscences "With the Century", the President recalled with deep emotion that all members left the native home departing from his grandfather and grandmother to return only after liberation of the country, but he had only returned home.

The idea of believing in the people as in Heaven was reflected in the soul of President on the basis of the family philosophy and popular tradition of noble human love of the Mangyongdae small thatched house and it served as the lifeline of life and motto of struggle that enabled him to devote his whole life to the country and the people.

Indeed, it is the greatest fortune and pride of all the Korean people who live in a large family with the most wonderful Mangyongdae as the great example and model of the nation.
