Whenever the praiseworthy successes are achieved in the building of an economic power, Korean people and KPA servicemen, who speed up their historic advance towards the overall development of socialism under the wise leadership of the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un, always look back upon devotion taken by Chairman Kim Jong Il who was on the way of field guidance till the last moment of his life and devoted his all to building an economic power.

The respected Comrade Kim Jong Un said:

"We should cultivate with care the valuable seeds of an economic power and an improved life for the people, which the great General Kim Jong Il sowed, and bring them to brilliant fruition."

Having provided a springboard for the building of a prosperous nation, standing all the tests of "Arduous March" and "Forced March" under the leadership of Chairman Kim Jong Il, the DPRK made more energetic efforts to build a socialist power in the new century.

A socialist power is the most powerful nation in the world that has strong national power and unlimited prosperity, in which people enjoy a happy life admired by the world to their hearts' content. In order to get the features of a socialist power completely, it is essential to put all the fields, such as politics, military affairs, the economy and culture, not only one field, on the position of a power alike.

Chairman Kim Jong Il took the helm in the general advance towards an economic power with his wise leadership, in keeping with the real conditions that the DPRK got the features of politico-ideological power and military power.

In his talk to the senior officials from the Party, state and economic organs on August 28, Juche 92(2003), "Let us carry out the Party's line of economic construction in the Songun era to the letter", the Chairman put forth a new line of economic construction to be adhered to by the Party and people and made clear its essence, validity and basic requirements to be held fast to for its thorough implementation.

The line of economic construction in the Songun era that light industry and agriculture should be developed simultaneously while giving priority to the development of national defense industry is the strategic line of the socialist economic construction that made it possible not only to strengthen the national defense industry but also to accelerate the overall economic construction so as to firmly consolidate the material and economic foundations for the building of a prosperous nation and the improvement of people's livelihood all together. In addition, it is the line of economic construction to firmly guarantee the Party's plan for building a powerful nation in a material and economic way.

It is the original line to combine defense upbuilding, economic construction and people's livelihood most correctly and solve them creditably at the highest level in line with the requirements of the revolutionary development. On top of that, it is the most revolutionary and popular line of economic construction to defend the dignity of the country and nation and hold fast to socialism even in the complex and acute situation and at the same time, to provide people with a rich and civilized life.

The new line of economic construction that carried forward the basic line of the socialist economic construction put forth by the Chairman produced the powerful ideological and theoretical instrument to bring out the unprecedented leap forward and great change in the building of an economic power.

The immortal exploits achieved by Chairman Kim Jong Il in the struggle to build an economic power in the new century are, secondly, to kindle the torch of the revolutionary advance, flames of leap forward one after another for accelerating the building of an economic power so as to bring about the great upsurge in the economic front by dint of the unlimited stamina of the popular masses.

The stamina of the popular masses is the might of an independent idea, while the hot wind of revolutionary upsurge is the manifestation of the stamina of the popular masses.

It is the WPK's traditional method of work to advance the revolution and construction constantly, overcoming all the difficulties and ordeals encountered by giving full rein to the stamina of the popular masses.

The Chairman flared up the torch of Ranam, the torch of a fresh revolutionary advance, at Ranam Coal-mining Machine Complex in the first year of the new century.

In spite of his fatigue from 50 000 ri's visit to Russia, he visited Ranam Coal-mining Machine Complex in August, Juche 90(2001) and praised them highly for manufacturing a metal-processing machine, an aggregate of cutting-edge science and technology. Soon afterward, he visited the complex again to see all the latest large-size equipment produced by the workers there and highly appreciated them for their efforts.

Then he said earnestly that they should work hard in the van of the country, upholding the torch of Ranam.

The Chairman lit the flames of the industrial revolution in the new century, the torch of Ranam, so as to bring out a new upsurge in the struggle to build an economic power.

Visiting South Hamgyong Province in November, Juche 95(2006), he praised them for taking the van of the country in developing the industry based on the modern science and technology. He gave them valuable instructions that the province should take the van of the country in building an economic power, saying that the rise and fall of the major industrial sectors such as machine and chemical industries depended on how factories and complexes in the province worked.

He visited many units in South Hamgyong Province, including Ryongsong Machine Complex, the February 8 Vinalon Complex, the construction site of the gasification project of the Hungnam Fertilizer Complex, the Port of Tanchon and Tanchon Magnesia Factory. He expressed great satisfaction with the successes achieved by officials and workers there and gave them great trust, saying that when he came to South Hamgyong Province, he noticed that the Party's policies were carried out creditably, and that people should carry out the Party's policies like them. He ensured that the flames of a new revolutionary upsurge flared up in South Hamgyong Province should be spread across the country so as to let the whole country respond to it actively.

The Chairman kindled the torch of a new revolutionary upswing in Kangson, the birthplace of Chollima.

Being determined to bring out a fresh revolutionary upsurge again so as to make a leap forward in all fronts for the building of an economic power like the arduous years after the Korean war when they brought out the Chollima upsurge to overcome all sorts of ordeals and difficulties and work world-shaking miracles and innovations in the socialist construction, he visited Kangson, the historic land, on December 24th, Juche 97(2008).

That day, seeing the performance of the ultrahigh electric furnace manufactured by the workers from Chollima Steel Complex on their own, he said that building a modern electric furnace called the essence of steel industry within several months was very encouraging to instill self-confidence and courage into the people, which they could do whatever they decided to. He highly praised that it was the heroic deed to display the stamina and true merits of Juche-oriented Korea rushing forward like the wind and earnestly appealed to the Kangson working class to take the van in the upsurge again. In hearty response to his appeal, workers in Kangson rose up and sent the letter to all the working people across the country. Responding to it, the latter turned out in the struggle, which flared up a fresh revolutionary upswing on this land.

The immortal exploits achieved by Chairman Kim Jong Il in the struggle to build an economic power in the new century are, thirdly, to bring about a great change in the building of an economic power by means of the historic occasions that were of great significance in the development of the WPK and revolution.

He defined the year Juche 91(2002) that was the 90th anniversary of the birthday of President Kim Il Sung as the year of an all-out charge, the year of a fresh upsurge, with the militant slogan, "Let us glorify the greatest national holiday with proud successes in the building of an economic power!" and gave wise guidance to putting all the fields of the national economy on a modern basis in conformity with the requirements of the new century.

After the success in the nuclear test in Juche 95(2006), the Chairman went on a tour of field guidance to the several fields of the national economy, saying that every possible effort should be directed into boosting the country's economy and improving the people's livelihood so that the people, who struggled girding up in their loins during the arduous years, could enjoy a plentiful material life and that the desire of President Kim Il Sung to let people lead a happy life by making great efforts to boost the economy should be realized as early as possible.

He aroused the whole Party and the entire people to the 150-day campaign and the 100-day campaign in Juche 98(2009) so as to work fresh miracles admired by the world one after another, thus ensuring that 2009 should be the year of changes, and be recorded as a proud page in the national history.

In addition, he mapped out a far-reaching plan to build Huichon Power Station till the year 2012 that was the centennial anniversary of the birthday of President Kim Il Sung and took the lead in the struggle for its completion. A miracle occurred and the power station was completed in such a short period as three years. He went on tours of field guidance to light industry and agriculture, which resulted in a fresh upsurge that gave people great happiness.
