Sunday Devoted to the Coming Generations

 2024.7.24.

History records many great men who regarded love for the younger generation as virtue, but there has been no one like President Kim Il Sung who had ever taken warm care of the children across the country as their true father from educational issues to all the details of their life.

Chairman Kim Jong Il said:

"Comrade Kim Il Sung is the benevolent father of all our youth and students, including children, and the great father of our people."

The moving story embedded in (then) Changjon Middle School in Pyongyang tells his warm love for the younger generation.

It was Sunday, Dec 21, Juche 58 (1969), when President Kim Il Sung visited (then) Pyongyang Changjon Middle School.

The President asked the pupils he met about where they lived, how old they were and what their parents did.

From their answers, he got to learn that a great many pupils were from different districts. He was sunk in contemplation for a while and added that middle schools and primary schools (at that time) should be built evenly in each district so that every pupil could attend schools in their neighborhoods.

Then he asked the pupils if they had watched any films, stressing the need to arrange workshops, in any case, on their feedback on them later. He told an accompanying official that they should build a splendid Children's Camp in Pyongyang that year as nobody had ever gone camping.

Pleased to see the students with broad smiles at his word, he said that if they went up Mt Myohyang with odd hills and fresh water, they would get fit and be happy to be climbing on cane with knapsack on their backs.

He also inquired what they were doing during the vacation and the principal answered that they spent the vacation doing the homework at homes. Emphasizing in a serious tone that it was problematic that the pupils in the city experienced nothing just staying in even during the whole vacation, he said to the principal that the pupils should stay in for 20 days and then go on study tours to places with educational purposes such as Hwanghae Iron Works (at that time), Kim Chaek Iron Works (at that time), February 8 Vinalon Factory (at that time) and Suphung.

Hydro power Station.

It was not until that late evening that the President left the school after giving precious instructions on various issues arising in the intellectual and moral education for a long time.

He discussed with the officials concerned the issue of extensively organizing study tours among the pupils that evening, and on Dec 24, 3 days later, he also gave another important instruction on that matter.

Therefore, from the following year, schoolchildren started visiting factories, enterprises and scenic spots across the country for ten days every year and enjoyed a pleasant camp life at the Children's Union Camp newly built in scenic spots including Mt Myohyang.

Indeed, the President's love for the younger generation was the most devoted and active one among the loves for the human beings, which was the highest expression of pure and beautiful love that will be handed down forever along with the history of mankind.
