Valuable Guidelines for Building a Mass-based Party

The Workers' Party of Korea is a revolutionary party which has added lustre to the proud journeys of victory and glory without the slightest vacillation or deviation even in the complicated and knotty political situations of the world during the whole period of severe revolutionary struggle and now it is successfully leading the vigorous advance to bring the Korean-style socialist construction definitely to the all-round development.

The Workers' Party of Korea is now displaying its dignity to the whole world as the General Staff of the revolution that defends and represents the demands of the masses of working people for independence as well as their interests, as the revolutionary party of Juche that has struck root among the broad masses of people, forming an integral whole with them, as the ever-victorious iron-willed party that has won only the victory, tiding over all difficulties and ordeals of the history without hesitation, which is unthinkable, without the undying exploits of President Kim Il Sung, the founder of our Party.

The respected Comrade Kim Jong Un said:

"Comrade Kim Il Sung ensured that the Workers' Party of Korea was built into a mass-based party with workers, farmers and intellectuals as its component elements, that it oriented all its activities to defending and realizing the demands and interests of the masses, and that it thus struck root deep among them and formed an integral whole with them."

A dignified revolutionary party that has struck root deep among the popular masses and formed an integral whole with them！ Here is the invincible might of our Party.

As the deep-rooted trees do not sway even in a fierce tempest, only when the Party strikes root deep among the masses and enjoys their unreserved support and trust, can it become an invincible party and be steadily consolidated on a powerful mass base.

The popular masses are the very source of inexhaustible strength of the Workers' Party of Korea which has vigorously led our socialist cause along the path of victory without any slightest stagnation and standstill, vacillation and frustration for decades.

From the first days of his revolutionary struggle, President Kim Il Sung created a new history of building a mass-based party, believing that only when the working-class party develops into a mass-based party of working people, can the party ranks be expanded and consolidated on a wider footing and can it become a powerful party rooted deep among the broader masses of people.

President Kim Il Sung advanced the line of building a mass-based party of working people with workers, farmers and intellectuals as its component elements and successfully realized it, based on the fundamental interests of the working class and other masses of working people, the demand of the age of independence and the actual conditions of our country.

Our Party has never been separated from the people even for a moment since it was founded with a hammer, a sickle and a brush in its red flag, and has always advanced the revolution and construction, believing in the people and relying on their strength.

Many revolutionary and progressive party activists in the world constantly came to our country to meet President Kim Il Sung who had consolidated and developed the WPK into a model of a mass-based party and find the right orientation and ways for building the party.

President Kim Il Sung met the party leaders and party activists from many countries throughout his revolutionary life, explaining to them about the valuable experiences of building our Party which he had gained in the flames of the arduous revolutionary struggle, and carefully leading them to conduct the party building and party activities without any slightest deviation.

On March 5, Juche 64(1975), President Kim Il Sung, in his talks with the chairman of the Mozambique Liberation Front, told him that he had developed the WPK into a mass-based party comprising the advanced elements of broad working masses.

He said that our country had been a backward colonial semi-feudalistic society in the past, so when our country was liberated, the working class was still very young and we did not have enough qualified communists, while people did not have a correct understanding of communism. In such a situation, he said, only a few thousands of people could manage to be admitted into the Party if we only followed the program and rules of the Communist Party, resulting in our Party failing to strike its roots among the broad working masses.

And also he explained in plain language that he had ensured that the Communist Party and the New Democratic Party were merged, and the founding of the Workers' Party, a unified party of the working masses was proclaimed, and a new program and rules were adopted.

He also explained that in the Party program, he had set it as an immediate goal to overthrow the pro-Japanese elements, traitors to the nation, landlords and comprador capitalists, and completely free the country from the foreign imperialist yoke, and build a democratic independent and sovereign state. And also he explained that he had stipulated in the Party rules that anyone who approved the Party's program and rules as the advanced elements of workers, farmers and working intellectuals, could join the Workers' Party.

In his talks with the delegation of March 26 Movement of Uruguay on February 20, Juche 82(1993), President Kim Il Sung gave concrete examples of the fact that he had conducted the revolutionary struggle and construction work, believing in the people and relying on their strength. Then he told them that no one presented the revolution, and that they should try to win the victory in the revolution by struggling by their own efforts.

One of the important problems that President Kim Il Sung stressed in his talks with the delegation that day was the problem of intellectuals. He stressed that they would be sure to need the intellectuals in order to build a new society successfully, and that the intellectuals are an important motive force of the revolution. He also told them that he had had not only a hammer and sickle symbolizing the workers and farmers but also a brush symbolizing the working intellectuals form the Party's emblem when he founded the Workers' Party, and that in the struggle for taking political power, the workers and farmers were the main motive force of the revolution, but after taking political power, the intellectuals were an important motive force of the revolution. And also he told them that only when uniting the efforts of workers and farmers with the efforts of intellectuals, regarding the intellectuals as a motive force of the revolution, could they build a new society successfully. Then he said with great pride that the party that had a brush form its emblem was only our Party in the world.

Indeed, all his teachings were a valuable revolutionary doctrine for the progressive party activists in the world.

The revolutionary diplomatic achievements made by President Kim Il Sung in the history of the world revolutionary party building are a great immortal contribution in the history of the world socialist movement.
