The Korean scientists and technicians built up the production line of acrylic paint by local efforts and technology and in a Korean way in a short span of time, thereby demonstrating once again that the key to breaking through the cutting edge is self-reliance.
This success that set the stage for realizing the Juche orientation of the production of chemical industrial goods is attributable to the respected General Secretary who, with brilliant wisdom, initiated our mode of research, development and production of acrylic paint and wisely led working people to hold the revolutionary spirit of self-reliance, science and technology as all-powerful weapon, and the scientists, technicians and workers who are unfailingly loyal to the Party and determined to implement the assignments given by him at the risk of their lives and with an extraordinary creative spirit.
One day in Juche102(2013), the respected General Secretary gave instructions on realizing the domestic production of finishing materials, especially on researching and developing in an original way the coating materials for the exterior of building as well as the paint for steel plate that is used for roofing.
In Juche103(2014), too, he took every opportunity to acquaint himself with the technical preparations for the acrylic paint production line and told relevant officials to complete its design at the set time and establish the new line on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the founding of the Workers' Party of Korea. The officials had thought that paint could be produced only with acrylic acid. So he informed them of the range of application of Terra Cottem and told them to set up its production line.
The officials, scientists, technicians and workers immediately launched into the project with the firm resolve to implement the task of producing the acrylic paint by local efforts, technology and raw materials in a short period.
They finished hundreds of cubic metre-excavation for foundation and concrete placing far ahead of schedule, made and installed more than 40 pillars including dozens of metre-high steel pillars for synthetic tower in a matter of one month.
They had lacked everything including information on this field. Their struggle to establish the line was not merely a course of development. It was a campaign to defend the Party policy and implement its plan and intention without condition and an ideological campaign and brain battle to break through the cutting edge, which took others a hundred or a thousand steps, in a stride.
Once the Korean experts visited a foreign country for a technical survey on the production line. When their foreign counterparts heard that the Koreans were going to automate the acrylic acid synthesis process by local efforts, they dissuaded them to do so as it was impossible.
They told them that in building an acrylic acid factory it was customary to import a full set of equipment, including sensors, automation components and programs, from the countries monopolizing this technology. They said that more than ten cases of terrible explosions occurred around the world in the course of the operation of such factories that were built even with the full set of equipment. They added that the best way was to buy the whole factory like them, even if it took much investment and many years for installation, assembly and trial run.
Although it took even developed countries several years to complete the automatic control system while experiencing some rounds of explosions, the DPRK developed and established it in a matter of three months. It was a miracle, indeed.
In June Juche104(2015) the Korean scientists, who were filled with national pride, great courage and firm confidence, started to develop the automatic control system of the acrylic acid synthesis process in a three-dimensional way in order to complete it in a Korean way.
As a result, on October 9, a day before the anniversary, they succeeded in the trial run at a go and put an end to the foreigners' monopolization of high technology by their own efforts and technology in three months.
In the course of trial production scientists, technicians and workers turned out various kinds of quality acrylic paints to send them to the sites of grand socialist construction while mass-producing Terra Cottem, a soil-improving and moisture-supplementing agent.
On August 12, Juche105(2016), the respected General Secretary inspected the acrylic paint production line newly built in the Sunchon Chemical Complex.
As he made the rounds of different places such as the acrylic acid synthesis and rectifying process and water and oil paints production processes, he expressed great satisfaction with the establishment of the production line of world standard. It is really great that our scientists and workers set up the production line in our own way and designed and manufactured all facilities with our own efforts, he said, adding he was gratified to see that coating materials for interior and exterior in various colours and Terra Cottem are being mass-produced.
It is a great event in the development of science and technology of the country that our scientists and technicians succeeded in the production of acrylic paint by developing and introducing the acrylic acid synthesis technology based on direct propylene oxidation, which is a monopoly of a few countries with developed chemical industry, he noted. They have done a big job, indeed, he praised.
A big problem has come to be solved since the acrylic acid produced at the acrylic paint production line is said to be used for manufacturing a variety of chemical products as well as paint, he said. He continued to say happily that the establishment of the line is identical with the setting up of a new acrylic acid industry in the chemical industry sector.
