Nano ZnO•Ag Complex Plastics and its Antibacterial Property

Nano technology which becomes a core and basic technology in development science and technology recently plays important roles and contributes in developing economy and improving people's livelihood because various functional nano materials were appeared.

Nano materials have the largest surface area and particular effects which general materials do not have because their particle size is the smallest.

In particular, nano antibacterial materials have not only the highest antibacterial property but also comparatively the lowest poison against human body. Also they have advantage not to have antibiotic resistance by pathogenic microbe.

Nano Ag antibacterial fiber, nano Ag antibacterial plastics, antibacterial paints, water disinfection materials, nano toothbrushes and other various functional goods using nano antibacterial materials were developed. So they are being applied to people's livelihood, health care and the field of livestock industry.

But the demand is not very high because the cost price of nano Ag is very expensive.

In the Pollution office, Hygienic Faculty, Pyongyang Medical College, Kim Il Sung University research group found out that zinc oxide rich in our country has antibacterial property and high antisepsis effect during the process studying antibacterial materials, made antibacterial materials by fixing nano Ag and nano zinc oxides and performed the study to manufacture nano ZnO•Ag complex plastics by fixing nano complex materials and polypropylene plastics.

The research group found out reaction condition, washing method and firing condition to influence particle size of nano ZnO•Ag.

And they found out that antibacterial property and antisepsis effect of nano ZnO•Ag was highest when nano Ag of 3 percent was added and established new manufacturing technology by finding out the reasonable component ratio of nano materials and polypropylene plastics.

As a result, they contributed to save and increase the health of people by making our new antibacterial plastic dishes that could have the lowest cost price, use for a long time and have high antibacterial property and antisepsis effect.

In the future we are going to do the study to make functional articles using nano antibacterial materials continuously.
