The emblem of the Workers' Party of Korea with a shining hammer, a sickle and a brush!
It is associated with the immortal exploits of the great Leader who developed the WPK into a revolutionary party of Juche and a powerful party rooted among the working masses.

"He had not only a hammer and sickle symbolizing the workers and famers but also a brush symbolizing the working intellectuals form the Party's emblem, to suit the characteristics of our Party, a mass party, and has led the Party to form a harmonious whole with the masses and render loyal service to all the people so as to provide them with an independent and creative life."
It was more than 70 years ago when the President guided the work of creating our Party's emblem. In those days, the President said that the emblem of the Workers' Party of Korea should represent the working class and peasants and intellectuals and only then could the Workers' Party of Korea symbolically show that it is the unified party of the working masses in our country. And he personally gave instructions on the details of the design.
True to the instructions of the President, officials exerted great efforts to complete the designs of the party emblem with a hammer, a sickle and a brush which symbolizes the workers, peasants and intellectuals.
Then the hammer was erected vertically, the sickle and brush were arranged in order on the right side, and the bottom ends of the handles of hammer, sickle and brush were attached together.
One day, the fatherly leader, who looked at the designs of the party emblem, said that it gave us a feeling of discursiveness although the ends of the handles were attached together. Saying that the hammer and the sickle were not our Korean ones, he told us to depict our Korean-style hammer and sickle used by our workers and farmers. Like this he pointed out the defects of the design of the emblem in details.
Saying that the handles of the hammer, sickle and brush should be crossed at their middle point not only for a good composition but also for symbolizing that the working masses including the workers, peasants and intellectuals are firmly united in our country, he personally set the order of the arrangement that the hammer should be placed on the left and the sickle on the right and the brush in the middle.
When they received his instructions, the officials could have a clear outline of the perfect emblem of the Party.
Looking around the officials who were full of emotion, the fatherly leader said that it would be good to put the brush in the middle and make it a little higher than the others so that it could mean that all the workers and peasants should acquire rich knowledge and culture and make a great contribution to to the building of an independent and sovereign state.
After looking at the revised plan again later, the President said that there should be a line showing the border of the handles so that everyone could clearly see the order in which the hammer, sickle and brush were laid.
And he picked up a pencil and personally drew the lines of intersection of the handles of the hammer and the sickle on a white paper and put the brush in the middle, hiding the lines of the brush handle in the intersection of the hammer and the sickle handles.
So this made it clear that the brush was standing behind the hammer and the sickle.
Indeed, it was the design which represents an infinitely profound idea.
Thanks to the wise leadership, noble intention, energetic and meticulous guidance of the President, it was possible to complete the Party's emblem which clearly symbolizes the character and noble mission of our Party while being unique and perfect in its ideological content and formative artistic quality.
