A Great Citizen

 2022.3.9.

Chairman Kim Jong Il was a peerless patriot who devoted his whole life to the happiness of the people with the burning love for his socialist country and people till the last moment of his life.

The respected Comrade Kim Jong Un said:

"General Kim Jong Il said that if there is an omnipotent entity in this world, it is the masses, not any god; it was his patriotic creed that the country exists because the people exist."

The patriotic mind of the Chairman was always filled with the word people.

Although he was the leader teaching and leading the masses of the people, he never thought that he was separated from the latter; he regarded the masses of the people as his teacher whom he learnt from throughout his life.

He was always exemplary in abiding the law and order of the country and the fixed regulations and principles strictly.

One day in November Juche 70(1981) he left with the officials to give on-the-spot guidance to a region.

On the way there the car, which left Pyongyang and was running at a high speed, suddenly slowed down, sounded the horn a few times, and soon stopped. In front of it was a check-bar and a controller was standing before it. Being embarrassed at the situation, an accompanying official who thought that the on-site guidance of the Chairman was delayed owing to his mistakes ran to the bar and urged the controller to raise the bar quickly.

But the controller, never knowing that there was the the Chairman in the stopped car, told him to follow the fixed rules with an unnatural smile on his face.

Then another official watching the scene demanded him in a loud voice to raise the bar quickly. As the time went by, the quick-tempered official showed his ID card and shouted at him. Only then the controller raised the bar.

As a result, the car of the Chairman was forced to stop for more than ten minutes at an unknown control post.

When the car arrived at its destination, the Chairman called the officials.

When the officials entered the room where he was, he said with an angry expression on his face.

Saying that it was very wrong that the officials did not comply with the demand of the controller, he strongly criticized them for their faults: You shouted at the controller to raise the bar by showing your ID card; you behaved in the same way as those ruling circles who think their status is almighty.

Then the officials realized their mistakes.

Without speaking for a while as he felt unhappy, the Chairman asked the official sternly why he shouted at the controller showing his ID card.

The official answered frankly that he thought the controller had the indiscretion to delay the busy field guidance of the Chairman.

Being distracted by his answer, he asked: Why do you think my work is special?

After a deep silence for a while, he said earnestly to the officials reproaching themselves: I am not a special person, but a citizen.

A citizen!

Feeling a shock at his words, the officials could say nothing.

Looking at them, he stressed once again that the officials are not the ones who govern the people but their servants, and that they should absolutely obey the will of the people and satisfy their demands unconditionally.

If the people do not allow me to go, I must not go, and if they tell me to wait, I must wait, no matter how long!

His words were the wisest ones reflecting the idea of President Kim Il Sung on believing in the people as in heaven, and the great political creed of the people's leader.

Indeed, the Chairman was a great citizen of the country, before being a brilliant commander of Mt. Paektu, a veteran leader of the revolution and an outstanding great man in history.

As seen above, the life of the Chairman was the noblest life of the peerless patriot who devoted himself to the people throughout his whole life, never allowing any kind of "privilege" or "preferential treatment" for himself.
