Newly Fixed School Subject

The respected Comrade Kim Jong Un said:

"Indeed, Comrade Kim Il Sung was the great leader of the revolution, the benevolent father of the people and a peerlessly great man admired by everyone, whose equal has never been recorded in history."

President Kim Il Sung is the great leader who regarded education as the most important work for the everlasting prosperity of the country and nation, the most important thing to decide the rise and fall of the country, paid preferential attention to the educational work and brought glory to the DPRK as the country of education admired by the world.

The history of the development of the DPRK's Juche-oriented education was the one of implementing the idea and principle of socialist education set forth by the President originally for the first time in history.

It includes the substance of the wise leadership of the President who ensured that a new subject should be fixed in conformity with the requirements of socialist education.

On July 27, Juche 43(1954), in his conclusion at the Presidium of the Central Committee of the WPK, he put forward the task of teaching the history of struggle of the Workers' Party of Korea at all universities and colleges.

At that time, lectures on Korean history were given at universities and colleges, to some degree, but the history of Korean communists' struggle for national liberation and of the post-liberation period when a radical social change was accomplished in the country was not yet systematized for teaching.

Saying that education in the history of struggle of the WPK was of great significance in training cadres for the nation and the ideological life of Korean people, President Kim Il Sung instructed that teaching the history of struggle of the WPK to the coming generation would make it possible for them to correctly recognize the history of communism in our country, the lawful course of its revolutionary struggle and the validity of lines and policies put forth by the Party at every period of revolution and construction. He also said that it would enhance their national pride and self-confidence and encourage them to dynamically advance on the road indicated by the Party with the correct recognition of the validity of our revolutionary cause and the absolute faith in their victory.

Then he took measures to organize a short course for lecturers on the history of struggle of the WPK in a substantial way, so that they could give lectures successfully, and help them study teaching materials and prepare for teaching in a good way.

In hearty response to his instruction, institutions of higher education newly included the subject called "Struggle of the WPK for Freedom and Independence of the Country and Democratic Construction" as one of political subjects in the curriculum and started teaching that subject on a full scale, thus bringing about a new change in the work of training cadres for the nation and the political and ideological life of Korean people.

There are many cases in which students become the cause of social trouble in some countries. In contrast, in the DPRK, they are regarded as pride and treasure of the country. Their gallant and courageous features that are never found in other countries, the proud reality in which they are united around the WPK and take the lead in carrying out the Party's line and policy, are the brilliant results of the wise leadership of President Kim Il Sung who raised the work of preparing students politically and ideologically as an important task in school education and led it to victory.
