President
The respected Comrade
"Even though he was held in high respect and admiration by our people and progressive people around the world, he rejected any special favor or privilege for himself, and always led a simple and frugal life with his people."
President
"Guerrilla noodle" enjoyed by the President is also one of such simple dishes.
In his lifetime, he enjoyed having "guerrilla noodle" and often told officials and people from foreign countries about it.
The noodle made of frozen potatoes was called "guerrilla noodle".
Frightened by the military offensive of the KPRA during the anti-Japanese armed struggle, the Japanese imperialists made desperate efforts to make collective villages wherever they went and prevent the people from supporting the anti-Japanese Guerrilla Army. But no wicked method and means could turn back the minds of Korean people for the guerrilla army.
They assisted the guerrillas with all sincerity despite any difficulties.
When the Japanese imperialists intensified their frantic offensive against the guerrilla army, people came up with a new method of supporting the guerrillas with food, the way of which was to leave potatoes in the fields untouched.
When they were harvesting potatoes, the Japanese imperialists used to register the amount of potatoes. People gathered only potato creepers and lied like the truth that they expected to have good harvest but in vain. Then they got into communication with their underground organization to inform the guerrillas that only potato creepers had been collected in some patches, so that they could dig potatoes there.
Being informed of that, the members of the anti-Japanese Guerrilla Army went to the fields to dug potatoes and those remained untouched in autumn were lifted up in winter or spring. They lifted up frozen potatoes, melted and squeezed water out of them, dried the peel and ground it into flour, thus making it into starch, of which they made noodles and made rice cakes.
"Guerrilla noodle" associated with such a meaningful story in the anti-Japanese armed struggle, the noodle made of frozen potatoes the President always remembered, has been a delicacy as well as being proud of by Korean people.
Once, Louise Rinser, a famous woman writer from the former West Germany, who was visiting the DPRK, was honoured to meet President
Listening to her, the President smiled and said that no matter how advanced Germany is, their potato dishes are not delicious better than Koreans', so don't speak too proudly about potatoes. I know about potatoes better than anyone else. I am a well-informed person of potatoes.
One day, the President saw to it that various kinds of potato dishes including frozen potato noodle and cakes should be made for her.
Showing interest in the noodle and cakes of unusual colour served at table, she had a bit of taste and then ate them with a good appetite.
The President looked at her full of satisfaction and asked her if she could guess what the ingredients of the dishes she had just eaten were.
But it was the first time for her to eat frozen potato noodle and cakes, so she could not guess.
She answered that she couldn't guess it. He said with a smile that it was the cake made of potatoes you were proud of.
Saying that frozen potato noodle was the most delicious of the dishes made of potatoes, she even made an earnest request to teach her hot to make it.
Potatoes are common everywhere and everyone easily throw away frozen potatoes.
However, President
