Every year, on the Reforestation Day (March 2nd), people turn out in the spring tree-planting campaign all over the country.
March 2nd of Juche 35(1946) when President
Our people always remember the immortal revolutionary feats and labor taken by the great leaders, in order to make our country a paradise and are fully determined to turn every mountain into the golden mountain and treasure mountain under the leadership of the respected Comrade
The respected Comrade
"Forests are precious resources of the country and a wealth to be handed down to posterity."
We cannot think about tree nurseries built in every corner of the country and mountain areas newly forested by all-people nation-wide campaign apart from the labors taken by the General Secretary in order to increase the forest resource.
On March 2nd, Juche 93(2004), the day full of spring, the respected Comrade
When he led the cadres, who were hesitating because they didn't remembered the Reforestation Day, to the tree-planting site, there were two saplings ready and the roots of them were covered with soil which was tightened with the straw ropes so that it would not crumble.
Cadres were choked with tears that the respected General Secretary, who is very busy day and night, spared precious time to plant the trees.
The respected General Secretary looked around at the cadres and asked them the suitable place for planting trees. Everybody recommended a place but he suggested a place saying that the trees should be in good harmony with the surrounding sceneries. Surely, that was a perfect place for planting tree from any perspectives.
The respected General Secretary personally began to dig a hole with the shovel.
One of the cadres was so embarrassed that he boldly tried to stop him from planting the trees saying that they only wanted him to guide them planting.
The respected General Secretary dissuaded him to say that a man should try everything. Saying that he was happy to see the fruits on the tree he had planted and the fruits were also delicious, he hurried the work.
Cadres also began to dig holes sweating a lot. When cadres impatiently tried to plant the tree thinking that the holes were big enough, the respected General Secretary said that the root should be in the comfortable position. Only after he estimated the depth and width of the hole and the root and branches of the tree, did he put the sapling in the hole. Then he scattered some soft soil over the root, watered it, put some soil again, firm the ground and put some props around the tree. He was as tender as the mother who looks after her baby.
The cadres admired his meticulous manner of working. The respected General Secretary said with a smile that we should put the props around the trees so firmly that the trees can survive.
Listening to his speech, the cadres could imagine the greener fatherland with those trees grown.
Looking at the tree for a long time, the respected General Secretary said seriously that our great General felt so heartbroken when he saw bare mountains that he judged the work of the unit by forestation of the surrounding mountains wherever he visited.
His words made the cadres feel ashamed. Actually, at that time, most of the mountains were bare due to the result of the arduous march and forced march. Owing to the natural disasters, people suffered from the lack of fuel as well as the lack of food. So during that period, a lot of mountains became bare.
So the great General said there had been useless trees on the mountains but as a lot of mountains became bare, we could take this chance to plant good kinds of trees on the bare mountains under a long-range program so that we could turn a misfortune into blessings. And he continued that the army, who are not only the defenders of the fatherland but also the creators of happy life of people, should take the lead in the forestation movement and land management.
The cadres were lost in thought when one of them said he got to know the true meaning of the slogan, "Live not merely for today, but for tomorrow!".
The respected General Secretary agreed with him and said our country would be more beautiful with greener mountains and fields in the near future.
Planting trees with the respected General Secretary became a valuable experience for the cadres.
When we look back on the past, President
And the great General put forward a policy of afforestation and led the whole party, whole country and all people to turn out in the tree-planting campaign. He also paid a kind attention in solving the sapling problem and took measures to build tree nurseries in every city and county.
Today the respected Comrade
