Hygienic Faculty of Pyongyang Medical College, Kim Il Sung University

Our faculty was earlier a Hygiene Department in the Medical Faculty of Kim Il Sung University when the great leader Comrade Kim Il Sung established the university on October 1^st, 1946 and later it became a hygiene faculty when Pyongyang medical College was established on September 28^th, 1948. In 2008, and now it became a Hygiene Faculty of Pyongyang Medical College of Kim Il Sung University since 2008.

When it was formed, our faculty had only two teachers but now it has more than 100 teachers, researchers and other staff members.

Our faculty has 8 departments such as environmental health science, labour hygiene, hygiene of children, nutrition management, human parasitology, epidemiology, infectious disease epidemiology and 5 research sections such as environmental pollution, foodstuff for good health, climate hygiene, tall growth and Parasitology.

Our faculty had trained the thousands students in 60 graduating terms so far and sent them all to the field of public health.

The faculty is now dealing with "hygiene course" and "infectious disease epidemiology course." It trains more than 50 hygienic and anti-epidemic specialists every year to send them to public health organs and research institutes across the country and also trains higher specialists in the post-graduate course.

We are also making plan to train clinical epidemiology specialists in a same time from next year.

Our faculty are also paying great attention to science research work with education work.

Upholding the preventive medical policy of the party our faculty is also making many-sided research work of the following problems. These include practical problems arising in preventing malaria, intestinal helminthiasis and encephalitis.

During these days we established scientific and realistic therapy, Mass Presumptive Primaquine Treatment (MPPT) and introduced it into the country.

We achieved the great success to solve the scientific and technological problems arising in preventing the environmental pollution ahead of time, problems arising in managing the nutrition of sports men and other specialists in various fields; problems arising in preventing in advance diabetes and other diseases caused by behavioral habits.

In order to implement the noble intentions of the great leaders our faculty directed its efforts to develop the hygiene of children and make study of improving nutrition management and tall growth and other practical issues for children.

In the future we will train a lot of capable public health workers by developing education work and also achieve great scientific and technological success to be able to contribute to the public health practice up holding the teachings of the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un.
