The Noble Intention of President Kim Il Sung who Recalled the Soldiers from the Fighting Front to University

Chairman Kim Jong Il said:

"During the Fatherland Liberation War when the destiny of our country was at stake, President Kim Il Sung recalled the former students from the front and had them resume their studies. No other country in the world has such an experience in their history of war."

In the arduous period of the Fatherland Liberation War decisive to the destiny of the country, President Kim Il Sung looked far ahead into the victorious future and paid close attention to training national cadres needed for postwar reconstruction.

At the historic Third Plenary Meeting of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea, President Kim Il Sung put forward the direction of the postwar reconstruction and had a talk with writers, artists and scientists on the next day, December 24, Juche 39(1950).

He gave instructions to scientists that we should have a large number of technical personnel in order to carry out large-scale reconstruction work and we could neither reconstruct nor build socialism without solving the problem of technical personnel.

Saying that it is very urgent for us to train talented technicians because there were very few technical personnel originally due to the aftermath of the Japanese imperialist colonial enslavement education and moreover many of them were died during the war, he earnestly taught us that in order to solve the problem of technical personnel sending more students to study abroad is needed but the more important thing is to open universities and to train a large number of technical personnel by ourselves.

In December Juche 40(1951), President Kim Il Sung saw to it that an order of the Supreme Commander was issued to investigate the soldiers who had joined the army from university on all fronts.

On January 23, Juche 41(1952), President Kim Il Sung called an official of the Supreme Headquarters and told him that there were many combatants in the Korean People's Army who gone to the front in response to the militant call of the Party while studying at the University. He said that we should recall them and educate them at the University.

The official looked very embarrassed.

The number of students who volunteered to go to the front numbered hundreds of thousands, he worried about the gap that would arise if a large number of them were taken away under the situation at that time when the frontline was fixed on the 38゜line.

He frankly told President Kim Il Sung his idea.

Regarding his feelings fully, President Kim Il Sung said in a resolute tone that we should boldly recall and send them to the University. In view of the problems of postwar reconstruction and the future development of the country, we could not stop the work of training cadres although we were in the wartime difficulties.

He said with confidence that if the soldiers who had been tempered in battle were sent to the University, they would grow up to be excellent national cadres and reliable scientific and technological talents of the country. He continued to say that when people learned that the soldiers fighting on the front would be recalled to the University, all the combatants of the People's Army and other people would fight more courageously with greater confidence in victory in the war.

As a result, a new legendary event unprecedented in the world war history was created during the Fatherland Liberation War.

The undying feats performed by President Kim Il Sung who devoted himself to the training of national cadres, foreseeing the bright future of the country during the war, will be handed down century after century.
