Kindling the flames of the youth shock-brigade movement

The great leader Comrade Kim Jong Il, who successfully carried forward President Kim Il Sung's idea of attaching importance to the youth and his politics of loving the youth, is an outstanding leader who always put the young people in the van of the times and trained them to be youth heroes.

The respected Comrade Kim Jong Un said:

"By dint of the line of prioritizing young people and his outstanding and seasoned leadership, Comrade Kim Jong Il developed the youth league into an organization that is unfailingly loyal to the Party and the leader, he also trained young people into reliable successors in carrying forward the lineage of Paektu and into warriors in accomplishing the revolutionary cause of Juche. Thus he opened a new golden age for the youth movement."

The noble exploits of the great leader Comrade Kim Jong Il, who ushered in a new heyday of the youth movement by holding the policy of giving importance to the youth firmly and leading them to heroic struggles and great achievements, are recorded in the historic course covered by the Korean youth movement.

The great leader Comrade Kim Jong Il let the youth flare flames of the youth shock-brigade movement and led them to fulfil their duty of vanguards and shock-brigades that made a breakthrough in the struggle for socialist construction.

In the mid-1970s, the youth in our country formed a large number of youth shock-brigades and made a breakthrough at every socialist construction site in hearty response to the plan of the great socialist construction of President Kim Il Sung and Chairman Kim Jong Il, which made it more imperative to develop this movement to a higher phase.

In early January Juche 64 (1975), the great leader Comrade Kim Jong Il, penetrating the urgent needs for the movement, worked out a plan to organize a new type youth shock-brigade with a large-scale well-organized system.

The great leader Comrade Kim Jong Il, who personally named the brigade "Speed Campaign Youth Shock Brigade" and informed the organizational form and operational methods of the shock brigade, established a well-organized system of political and ideological education, a primary commanding system and a nationwide supply service system for the shock brigade, and sent many modern construction equipment, agitation and cultural facilities to the shock brigade members in time, and then took a close look at the corner of their struggle and life.

Thanks to the far-reaching plan and deep care of the great leader Comrade Kim Jong Il, the shock brigade was born on May 16, Juche 64 (1975) with a well-regulated work and command system, powerful technical forces and means.

The birth of the shock brigade was given by the great leader's noble intention to put the young people in the van of the times and make them trace heroic struggles and feats, which opened up a stage for the youth to fulfil their duty of vanguards and shock-brigades in the struggle for socialist construction.

The youth, who joined the "Speed Campaign Youth Shock Brigade" that had been organized by the warm love and trust of the great leader, made innovations in the struggle to build monumental edifices in the era of the Workers' Party including the electrification of the country's railways and the construction of new railways which had great significances in socialist construction.

The members of the shock brigade completed the electrification of the Pyongyang-Madong railway, which had been regarded to be completed in more than two years with difficulty, in less than two months and demonstrated the heroic spirit of the youth in many new railways and electrification projects such as the construction of the Wangjaesan Revolutionary Site, the Revolutionary Battle Site in the Mt. Paektu area, the International Friendship Exhibition House and the electrification project between Huichon and Koin and between Kujang and Phalwon.

They also performed brilliant labor exploits in the construction of many major projects including the Third Plant of the Komdok Mining Complex, Changgwang Street, Munsu Street, Ansang Thaek Street, Changgwang Health Complex, Grand People's Study House, Pyongyang Department Store No. 1 and the Korean Film Studio.

The great leader Comrade Kim Jong Il endowed the youth with the position of his special detachment during the "Arduous March" and set forth a militant task of carrying out the construction of the Pyongyang-Nampho highway to the youth in November Juche 87 (1998) with the intention to deal a blow to the imperialists and reactionaries hell-bent on stifling the DPRK and demonstrate the bravery and revolutionary mettle of the youth to the world.

True to the militant tasks of the great leader Comrade Kim Jong Il, the youth finished the earthworks of more-than-14 million cubic meters, many bridges and structures and road paving of millions of square meters to complete the Pyongyang-Nampho highway, a grand monument in the era of the Workers' Party, through a death-defying struggle for nearly 700 days.

The great leader Comrade Kim Jong Il highly praised the feats performed by the youth in the construction of highways and a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly of the DPRK to name the Pyongyang-Nampho Highway the Youth Hero Road was promulgated in October Juche 89 (2000).

The members of the speed campaign youth brigade are preparing themselves to be as masters and pillars of the times possessing the noble ideological and spiritual qualities through the construction of many grand monumental edifices in the van of the grand socialist construction under the torch lit by the great leader Comrade Kim Jong Il.

The immortal exploits of the great leader Comrade Kim Jong Il who loved the youth most and supported them in the van of the times are shining more brilliantly thanks to the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un.
