The Story About the Barber's Working Dress

 2026.2.11.

The respected Comrade Kim Jong Un said:

"General Kim Jong Il, regarding ‘The people are my God' as his motto, believed in the people as in heaven, loved them infinitely and did his best for them, always prioritizing their demands and interests."

There are myriads of revolutionary anecdotes about the greatness of Chairman Kim Jong Il who devoted all his life to the good of the people and the story I'm going to tell is one of them. This is the story of affection about the working dress barbers wear.

One day in July, 1976, Chairman visited the barber's in Pyongyang and saw a barber who was working holding a towel in his hand to wipe out the sweat which was running down continuously in spite of not so hot weather in the midsummer.

Looking at him, Chairman asked him why he was sweating so hard. The barber hesitating to answer the question, Chairman, not waiting for his answer, said that the reason why the barber was perspiring was because his working dress was too long and it made him difficult to move and it was also a waste of cloth.

Then he asked the barber why he was wearing the long-length working dress, which was rather inconvenient even though he didn't need to wear it in a long style.

The barber answered that they had been wearing working dresses with long sleeves for a long time, so nobody dared to change it.

Thereon looking at his uniform again, Chairman said it would be better for them to wear working dresses with short sleeves and if they are convenient to them, the other barbers also should wear in that style. And Chairman said that the form is not something unchangeable but constantly changing in conformity with the requirements and tastes of the developing times, and taught that the workers' uniforms and working dresses should be convenient for them to move.

After a little while, Chairman said that there should be a pioneer in everything and told the barber to change his working dress first and dress it.

A few days later, Chairman visited the barber's again to say that the new working dresses should be made into short-sleeved and short-lengthened like shirts that men wore in summer and give some other comments on its style.

On August 13th, 1976, Chairman, visited the barber's again, to look at the barber in the new working dress with full smile and said that he looked much smarter and much younger in the new working dress.

With his great happiness, the barber told Chairman he didn't feel very hot and was convenient in the new working dress. And Chairman said if the new uniforms were convenient, the others' should be all altered and continued that they should be made as soon as possible for the barbers who worked hard to dress people's hair.

Thus under the warm care of Chairman the barbers were given new-designed working dresses that looked nice in appearance and were convenient to work.
