"Worship of big countries and dependence on foreign forces is the way to national ruin, and only self-reliance is the road to adhering to independence and achieving prosperity. Today we have many things we are short of and we don't have, but if we hold high the banner of self-reliance, there will be no difficulty we cannot surmount, nor any fortress we cannot seize."
It is the intention and determination of the Workers' Party of Korea to surmount the severest-ever trials, defend to the last the sovereignty and supreme interests of the nation and open up an avenue for the victory of the revolutionary cause of Juche on the strength of the people's spiritual power of self-reliance and fortitude, which were created during the anti-Japanese armed struggle and have been consolidated historically and by enlisting all the internal strength, which has improved in recent years.
For the Korean people, who have embarked on the road of historic advance with confidence in sure victory and far-reaching ambition, there is their unique tactic and mode of creation, namely, self-reliance, with which to create a brighter future of socialism on their own strength.
The road of self-reliance is the only victorious road for defending and glorifying the independent dignity and life of the people.
The historical lesson of the socialist movement shows that if one does not cultivate one's own strength while relying on others, one may make a mess of the revolutionary achievements, which were won at the cost of blood, overnight and the people's destiny may be reduced into a pitiable plight. Now the Korean people are propelling the cause of independence of the masses, the socialist cause, in the face of tenacious challenges and blockade by the US imperialists, the ringleader of world imperialism, and their vassal forces. The more their socialist construction advances, the more tenacious and harsher are the imperialists' moves to infringe upon their sovereignty and reduce them to their slaves. As a result, their struggle to accomplish the socialist cause has become unprecedentedly arduous and complicated.
For the people of Korea, whose territory and population are small, an external environment favorable for their economic construction is essential, but they cannot sell their dignity, which they have defended as their life itself so far, for the sake of gorgeous transformation. This is the steadfast stand of the WPK and the Korean people.
If the masses are to defend their position as masters of their own destiny and their independent rights and dignity, they must solve all the problems on their own responsibility and on the principle of self-reliance.
Solving all the problems arising in the revolution and construction according to one's own view and determination, this is the way to defending and exalting one's own independent dignity.
Self-reliance is the fighting spirit of the revolutionary people, who, as masters of their own destiny, carve out their future by their own efforts.
As the enemy's ambition to stifle their socialism has not changed even a little, it is foolish of the people to think that the situation may become less tense and the sanctions may be lifted.
The key to the dignity and bright future of their nation and to their eternal happiness and prosperity is in their hands.
Creating and developing everything by their own efforts under the uplifted revolutionary banner of self-reliance is the road to defending their destiny and their socialism. They cannot follow the road of worthwhile struggle while reading others' faces or by relying on their strength; only when they solve all the problems arising in the revolutionary struggle in conformity to their aspirations and requirements and the interests of the revolution in their country and by relying on their own strength, technology and raw materials can they defend their independent dignity and guarantee their happy life.
Self-reliance means the life and dignity of an independent people, and they can guarantee their precious life and the eternal prosperity of their posterity only when they hold fast to the principle of self-development first as a treasured sword.
The road of self-reliance is the road to realizing their dreams and ideals by surmounting all the difficulties and hardships.
At present, all countries of the world are trying to find a way of their development.
Some of them attempt to introduce foreign capital without any methodology suited to their actual situation or pin their hopes on foreign assistance.
These are not the road to genuine prosperity. Dependence on foreign forces is the road to national ruin, and only self-reliance can translate the people's dreams into reality. This is why the WPK advanced the revolutionary line of smashing through all the difficulties on the road of revolutionary advance and demands that the banner of achieving prosperity through self-reliance be lifted higher.
Only when the people have a strong will to rely on themselves and make redoubled efforts, can they display the wisdom and methods and an audacious fighting spirit and mode of discovering what are short of and making what are lacking, and achieve a great transformation of leaping over decades and centuries.
The validity and vitality of self-reliance has been demonstrated to the full in the whole course of the Korean revolution.
To look back, the long road of struggle followed by the Korean people was an untrodden path and an arduous and complicated road filled with trials beyond imagination.
Under the wise leadership of the WPK, the Korean people have worked epoch-making miracles and transformations at each period and stage of the revolution and construction with an indomitable faith and heroic struggle.
In particular, in the days of the arduous march and forced march they defended their country and revolution and provided a solid springboard for building a powerful socialist country without any hesitation and vacillation. This was valuable fruition of the outstanding and seasoned leadership of the WPK which ensured that the whole society brimmed over with the revolutionary spirit of self-reliance and fortitude.
The recent pandemic, consecutive natural disasters and persistent obstructive moves of the hostile forces were so trying and harsh that other must have yielded, not withstanding even a day, but they could not reverse and delay the advance of the Korean people who have formed a solid integral whole.
Had they given up the principle of self-reliance in the face of pressure by the outside forces, their Juche-oriented socialism and the name of their country would have lost their luster for ever. As they fought unyieldingly with the revolutionary spirit and fighting mode of self-reliance, there exist today's Korea and the victorious advance of their socialist cause.
History and the reality clearly prove that self-reliance is the immutable modes of advance and creation of Juche Korea and a militant banner that brings proud successes and victory in the revolution and construction.
As there are the strong foundations of the self-supporting economy, which have been laid down under the leadership of the WPK and as self-reliance and self-sufficiency have become the unchangeable modes of working and living of the Korean people, the might of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea will grow stronger and so the dreams and aspirations of its people can surely come true.
