Personally Instructing the Principle for Diplomatic Work of New Korea

The respected Comrade Kim Jong Un said:

"Comrade Kim Il Sung was a pre-eminent and seasoned leader of the revolution, who wrote a new chapter in modern history and added brilliance to it by leading our revolution along an ever-victorious road under the banner of independence."

The brilliant path blazed by our fatherland, dignified by independence and victorious with its own exertions, has recorded the immortal exploits of President Kim Il Sung, who, from the very starting point of the nation building, ensured that the independent stand be firmly kept to in diplomatic work.

In his earlier historical speech on the building of party, state and armed force in the liberated Korea, he put forward it as one of the basic work principles for the people's government to be founded to promote friendships with the countries having a great regard for our people and treating us on an equal basis. He laid down the policy of establishing the Department of Foreign Affairs (then) at the beginning of 1947, before the founding of the DPRK, and made painstaking efforts for the independent stand to be kept to in foreign affairs.

It was July 14, 1948 when the work for the founding of the DPRK, our nation's genuine independent sovereign state, was being conducted on a full scale in its final stage.

That day the President called the director of the Department of Foreign Affairs to his office room to give him valuable teachings on the diplomatic activities.

In those days, they were discussing the problem of issuing a new passport in the Department of Foreign Affairs, with the founding of the Republic near at hand. Passport symbolizes the national sovereignty as a document for identifying one's citizenship.

The old passport, a relic of the feudal society, had a flag of the feudal Korea, which did not suit the specific situation in then Korea, but some stupid persons insisted on issuing it as before, emphasizing the preservation of national tradition, and others suggested copying the passport of other countries as if it was a model one, obsessed by flunkeyism.

Referring to these claims, he told the director of the Department of Foreign Affairs that our passport should have a picture of the national flag of the DPR Korea, and to this end we ought to make a new passport.

The President said that we mustn't copy the passport of other countries, and that we should firmly keep to the independent stand in making a new passport while showing consideration for international practices.

He also said that we should conduct diplomatic activities in an independent way and in our right mind.

This was a valuable principle in diplomatic activities for the diplomats of the Republic to be founded to keep in mind and keep to all the time in their foreign activities.
