Warm love associated with school bicycle

Under the wise guidance of President Kim Il Sung and Chairman Kim Jong Il, Changsong which had been abandoned as an uninhabitable place in the past, underwent a radical change into a paradise of the people.

Chairman Kim Jong Il said:

"Every place in Changsong County, including factories, enterprises and cooperative farms, is associated with sacred traces of leadership of President Kim Il Sung, and the county has undergone tremendous changes and the county people have become able to lead a fulfilling life under his care."

Among the stories about the history of great change in Changsong is the one about the legendary loving care shown by the President for the commuting of students in a mountain village.

On July 22, Juche 56(1967), President Kim Il Sung personally met a lady teacher and students on the road while he was going on field inspection in Changsong County.

Overwhelmed by the honor of meeting the President, whom she had been missing all the time, unexpectedly on the roadside, the teacher preened herself and made a bow to him in humblest reverence.

Wearing a tender smile on his face, the President kindly asked her where her native place was and what his parents did.

As he listened to her answers that she was from Changsong and her father worked on a ship in Lake Suphung, he looked round at the students standing hesitatingly at one side and asked them what the commuting distance was.

When they answered that the school was far away, he asked again what was the commuting distance of the student who was farthest away from the school.

After hearing the teacher's answer that it was about 12 kilometers, he had a shadow pass over his face at the fact that many students were traveling such long distances to school and gazed at the ridgeway going all the way through the mountains for a long time.

Then he asked her if it would be better to ride a bicycle to school and how many students were riding bicycles at that time.

Learning that there were only few students riding bicycles, he told the accompanying officials to send bicycles to them, saying that they should be provided with low-saddled bikes with small wheels and spare parts as well so that they could repair bicycles when they were broken.

Until that time, all teachers of the school and officials of the county regarded the long school commuting distance in the mountain county as unavoidable. However, the President showed great loving care for the students who were walking far distances to attend school even in the busy course of his field guidance.

Some days later, students and their parents received bicycles associated with the warm love of the President and shed tears of gratitude.

Indeed, though there are many countries and leaders in the world, there has not been such a great man as the President who even took a benevolent measure to send school bicycles to students in a remote mountain village.
