Chairman Kim Jong Il said:

Thanks to the wise leadership of the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un, who is pouring his heart and soul upholding the high intention of Chairman Kim Jong Il who devoted his all to make the Korean people the happiest in the world, a legendary story of white gold, salt made from underground ultra-saline water was created in the DPR Korea.

Salt is an indispensable necessity for the people's diet; it is an important raw material urgently needed for various sectors of the national economy, including the chemical industry, the food-processing industry and the pharmaceutical industry, and plays a very big role in improving the people's living standard and economic development.

In view of the importance of salt, Chairman Kim Jong Il repeatedly visited the salt ponds on the windy seashore and gave instructions to mass-produce it.

When he visited the Exhibition of Education and Science of Kim Il Sung University in April, Juche 99(2010), he looked at the blueprint for the development of underground ultra-saline water resources among many achievements made by the teachers, researchers and students of the university and said with great satisfaction that it was a very good idea to realize his plan.

Afterwards, he saw to it that measures were taken to determine the deposits and locations of underground ultra-saline water in the west coastal area and other parts of the country, and thus a struggle was waged to establish a method of producing salt production from underground ultra-saline water.

The respected Comrade Kim Jong Un, who is materializing the behests of Chairman Kim Jong Il into reality one by one, acquainted himself with the development of underground ultra-saline water on several occasions and gave precious instructions and dispatched a powerful scientific and technological group in Juche 102(2013).

And in order to bring about a fresh turn in the salt industry, the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un entrusted the People's Army with the honourable task of introducing into reality the method of salt production by underground ultra-saline water resources of great economic value.

Upon receiving the order of the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un, the service personnel of the People's Army, despite the repeated failures and unfavourable weather, found nearly 100 saline water intakes in a short span of time and produced a salt production process with a capacity of nearly three times more than the amount of salt produced in the normal salt field and that in the area of less than 30% of the normal salt field in the spirit of devotedly implementing the behests of Chairman Kim Jong Il and the instructions of the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un.

On May 23, Juche 105(2016), the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un gave on-the-spot guidance to the Kwisong Salt Works, saying that he was so pleased to hear that the service personnel of the People's Army were producing a large amount of salt in a small area of salt fields by introducing the method of producing salt with underground ultra-saline water that it kept him awake and added that he looked at the reports all night before coming to see in one breath.

Looking at the huge piles of salt with a broad smile on his face, the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un said that he was very pleased to see the salt extracted from the underground ultra-saline water piled up in the salt field, adding that all the heaps of white salt looked like platinum.

Noting that they opened up a bright prospect for self-sufficiency in salt in our country by carrying out the behests of Chairman Kim Jong Il, he repeatedly called the salt produced from underground ultra-saline water platinum with pleasure and affection as if he had obtained precious treasure from the ground.

The accompanying officials thought that he must be very concerned about the people's livelihood and the life of the service personnel to call the heaps of salt the mountains of platinum. Their hearts were filled with his deep affection for the people.

Thanks to the politics of attaching importance to the people, the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un, who is carrying forward the idea and cause of President Kim Il Sung and Chairman Kim Jong Il without an inch of deviation, the salt produced from underground ultra-saline water was called platinum in our country.
