The electronic musical instruments, as a product of the latest science and technology, have excellent features that are capable of controlling the timbre and sound in a diversified way. It means that they can create excellent music loved by people by satisfactorily ensuring the breadth and depth of musical interpretation.
However, by the time when electronic instruments were newly developed, people wrongly thought that these instruments could be used only to play such music as rock, disco, and jazz. In capitalist countries those were actually used to play those genres of music in a frantic way, deforming music and paralyzing the sound ideological consciousness of people as an important means of spreading bourgeois ideology and culture.
Based on a scientific analysis of the advantages of electronic instruments and the world trend of the development of electronic music, the great General, the expert in music, proposed the creation of Korean-style electronic music as an important issue for the development of the Juche art, and matured his far-reaching plan for its realization. And on June 4, Juche 74(1985), he personally organized the Pochonbo Electronic Ensemble, a model band of our-style electronic music, giving detailed guidance to its development.
In June, Juche 79(1990), the great General clarified in detail the principled issues concerning the development of our electronic music, saying that our electronic music should be played not in a rough and noisy rhythmic way like in other countries, but be played to a unique tune of beautiful, gentle and noble melodies, and that electronic instruments should be combined with western musical instruments such as pianos and national instruments such as Saenap or gong, so that the national sentiments and colours peculiar to our music can be preserved even in electronic music.
Later, the great General guided the Pochonbo Electronic Ensemble in detail, ranging from choosing programs to selecting arrangement, instrumentation, performance styles and representation of singers. He personally took precious time off to teach them even when one piece of music was created, so that they could make a tangible contribution to the revolution and construction.
Thanks to his energetic guidance, the Pochonbo Electronic Ensemble created a number of new songs, including the song "No Motherland without You", "Led by You, We Will Win", "A Dear Name", "Best Wishes", "Don't Advance, Night of Pyongyang", and reproduced existing immortal classic works, and famous tunes and folk songs to the taste and sentiment of our people, which contributed greatly to the development of the Juche music and art.
