Pyongyang Gold Lane Built In Fine Location

 2025.4.2.

At Pyongyang Gold Lane on the bank of the picturesque Taedong River in Pyongyang, the capital of the DPRK, a great many people are enjoying their leisure time.

Pyongyang Gold Lane which was splendidly built as the popular sports and entertainment base is associated with the love of the President Kim Il Sung for the people who tried to provide them with more civilized cultural and emotional life bases.

Chairman Kim Jong Il said:

"In providing an independent and creative life for the people, it is important to meet their cultural requirements."

On February 25, 1994 when he was told that Pyongyang Gold Lane was completed, President Kim Il Sung paid a visit to it though he was busy guiding the National Agricultural Conference. Looking at it for a long time, he was very glad to have provided another sports and amusement base for the people.

Bowling is good for health because it is a proper exercise for a whole body. Bowling needs an energy consumption of 165 kJ per game. Compared with other exercises the energy consumption for its three games is equal to that for 80 minutes of walking, 60 minutes of volleyball game, 20 minutes of tennis match and 18 minutes of football game, so it is suitable for the middle-aged people who become stiffened and makes it possible for them to keep healthy so as to contribute to labour and national defense.

Before that time, in fact, there were many sports and amusement bases for the people in the DPRK, but there were no bowling houses.

A Korean commercial worker in Japan, who went to back to Japan after meeting President Kim Il Sung, racked his brain to repay the benevolence of the President who warmly took care of overseas Koreans like their parent and implanted the Korean nation's soul, and decided to provide bowling equipment.

Informed of it, the President gave thanks to him and made sure that a bowling house was built in Pyongyang for everyone to enjoy bowling in their leisure time.

The designers, after a series of studies and discussions, were expecting it to be built in Kwangbok Street or Chongchun Street or then newly built Rangnang Street.

The present site of Pyongyang Gold Lane is the fine location on the beautiful Taedong River in Pyongyang famous for a scenic beauty, from which magnificent Munsu Street stretches facing Mansu Hill and Moran Hill over the Taedong River, and is also the place that President Kim Il Sung and Chairman Kim Jong Il left vacant with special attention even when Munsu Street was built. Therefore the designers as well as the officials concerned did not dare to covet the place for it.

President Kim Il Sung selected "the fine location" on the Taedong river, which he had spared so much, for the site of the bowing house. Later he examined its blueprint when it was drawn and dispatched the powerful construction force. He also found the solution when problems arouse in the importation of its equipment and sent the delegation abroad for its management and maintenance.

Thanks to the special concern and care of President Kim Il Sung, Pyongyang Gold Lane has been built into a modern sports and entertainment base with several service facilities including specially and spaciously built bowling alley with 40-track and a grandstand in a short span of less than two years.

Today Pyongyang Gold Lane built in the "fine location" on the Taedong River, the center of the capital city, Pyongyang, is creditably fulfilling its mission as a sports and amusement base favored by the Korean people.
