The core of our modernization – the localization of equipment

Increasing the proportion of locally available equipment in the modernization of the national economy is a key task to be achieved in economic construction.

The respected Comrade Kim Jong Un said:

"The core in renovating factories and enterprises is to increase the proportion of equipment obtained locally."

Modernization of the economy means improving the technical equipment of the economy by transforming backward technology into advanced one.

The core of our modernization is the home production of equipment.

First, the home production of equipment makes it possible to modernize the national economy in the direction of increasing its independence.

To strengthen the independence of the national economy is the basic policy and core task of economic construction which the government of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea should constantly promote and pursue.

The state economy which suits the profile of a powerful socialist country should not only be equipped with cutting-edge technology but also be self-supporting in utilizing the resources of its own country and serving its people.

Modernization of the national economy can be carried out by tapping its own technology and resources and by introducing advanced technology, equipment and funds from other countries. If we try to copy foreign things and modernize the national economy by the efforts of others, we cannot build an economy that suits the appearance of a powerful socialist country nor can we build the material and technical foundations of the country.

In particular, if factories and enterprises are modernized by introducing all foreign equipment and processes, they cannot conform to our reality and their operation will also suffer from some limitations.

Therefore, it is the core of the work to increase the proportion of locally available equipment in promoting modernization in the direction of strengthening the independence of the national economy.

The localization of equipment makes it possible to raise the economic sectors to the world level as required by the era of our state-first principle.

Our state-first principle is a pride and self-confidence in the greatness of the socialist country and a strong will to put the overall national power of the country on the highest level. Our state-first principle is expressed in the efforts to raise the country's economic power to the world level by relying on our own strength, technology and resources.

The shining successes made in the modernization of the national economy under the banner of home production instilled great confidence and optimism into the people who have turned out in socialist economic construction. The Myohyangsan Medical Appliances Factory, for instance, has put its modernization on a high level under the wise leadership of the Party and has now turned into a modern factory capable of manufacturing up-to-date medical equipment.

Besides, the localization of equipment can greatly reduce the cost of modernization of the national economy.

In the past, when factories and enterprises were modernized, equipment was imported from other countries as a whole, and when the equipment and processes needed for modernization were imported from other countries, the goal of modernization could be easily achieved, but a large sum of money would be spent.

On the contrary, when we develop equipment and processes for modernization with domestic technique and materials, the cost will be significantly cut down.

If the creative wisdom of our workers, scientists and technicians is fully displayed, nothing is impossible. If we make the equipment needed for modernization by relying on locally available equipment, we can not only reduce the cost significantly but also strengthen our scientific and technological foundations.

The DPRK is striving to put the national economy on a modern basis of a high level by dint of the spirit of self-reliance and science and technology under the wise guidance of the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un, while modernizing the factories in the field of foodstuff industry, raising the proportion of locally available equipment and producing quality goods in large quantities.

When giving field guidance to the Pyongyang Children's Foodstuff Factory in November Juche 104(2015), he said that what he is particularly satisfied with in its modernization was that our scientists and technicians had designed and built up the ultra-modern equipment for all production processes, emphasizing that the core of the Party's policy on modernization was the home production.

If the officials of the factory had chosen to purchase the equipment needed for modernization from other countries, it would have been difficult to expect the successful modernization.

That day the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un highly praised the factory as a factory in which the Party's intention to increase the proportion of home-made equipment in modernization has been fully realized and a factory which proved that it is quite possible to realize the localization of equipment desired by the Party if it relies on our own force and on the strength of science and technology.

Under the wise guidance of General Secretary Kim Jong Un, a vigorous struggle has been waged to modernize the production processes on the basis of our resources, technology and equipment in all sectors and units of the national economy, and a substantial progress has been made in the work of definitely developing the national economy onto a new stage of development.
