Setting the Size of Rice Paddies

 2026.2.11.

Chairman Kim Jong Il was a great revolutionary who devoted his all to the country and people till the last moments of his revolutionary life.

The respected Comrade Kim Jong Un said:.

"Comrade Kim Jong Il, always saying that human life is the devotion to the country and the people and it is a true life when both its beginning and end are beautiful, devoted his all to the country and people and ended his life on the road for them."

Among the facts are the one related to the life of Chairman Kim Jong Il who devoted himself to the country and people on the occasion of the Day of the Shining Star, the greatest national holiday, which was born by him. There is a story about his establishment of the standard of paddy fields which no one could make a conclusion.

Land is the main means of agricultural production and land realignment is an important reserve for increasing grain yield by expanding the area under cultivation.

In our country the agrarian reform was carried out immediately after the liberation, so that our peasants became masters of land. In the postwar years agricultural cooperativization was carried out to completely abolish the feudal relations of land ownership in the countryside, thus making the peasants socialist working people, but the rural land was not far from being a great part of the feudal era.

This is because land realignment is a great nature-remaking project, which makes it difficult to be easily decided and thus is difficult to be implemented.

But although land realignment was the vast scale, Chairman Kim Jong Il regarded this work as a patriotic cause of lasting value. He made a bold decision to make the land of the country as befitting the land of a socialist state, took measures for manpower and vehicles and, in particular, set the standard size of rice paddies in conformity with scientific principles, which was the most important problem in land realignment.

The question of how to define the size of rice paddies was of paramount importance in the completion of the work of land realignment in time.

Learning that Kangwon Province, which was set as a model of land realignment, was suffering from the failure to set a reasonable standard size of rice paddies, he said that new things were born and won only in the struggle against the old and conservative ones. He also mentioned that the work should not be conducted in a passive way and gave instructions on setting the size of a paddy as 1000-phyong for the first class fields and as 800-phyong for the second class fields according to the topographical conditions, awakening officials with similar examples.

When visiting the Hungnam Plain, he said that if the size of rice paddies were 3,000 phyong, they would not prevent rice seedlings from gathering in one place by the wind in the rice-transplanting season, and gave detailed instructions that 3000 phyong paddies could be tried and accepted in a few places on an experimental basis but now they should be made at 1,000-1,500 phyong and then it would be easy to make 3,000 phyong in the future without going this way and that.

Thanks to his bold initiative and detailed guidance, the vast area of land realignment in our country could be completed in a short span of time despite difficult conditions, the number of paddies was reduced by 880 paddies in a plain, the length of ridges between paddy fields was reduced by 80 or more and the area of rice fields was increased by 17 jongbos.

The song "Song of Rich Harvest" is resounding far and wide on this land, which has been remodeled as befits the land of socialist Korea thanks to his immortal patriotic devotion.
