The first great and courageous determination in the life of President Kim Il Sung

 2022.4.21.

Korean revolution, started from the foundation of the Down-with-Imperialism Union, has advanced along the arduous and long way.

The revolutionary cause of Juche, pioneered by President Kim Il Sung when he found the Down-with-Imperialism Union, is now vigorously advancing under the leadership of the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un.

Whenever we think of the Korean revolution holding high the red flag of the revolution invariably in the 21st century, we recollect once again the personality of President Kim Il Sung as a great man who provided the correct way to be followed by the Korean revolution by making the first bold decision in his life 95 years ago, when he formed the Down-with-Imperialism Union, a genuine communist revolutionary organization in October Juche 15(1926) and made a bold decision to drop out of Hwasong Uisuk School for realizing the ideal of the DIU.

President Kim Il Sung said:

"Going to Jilin after attending Hwasong Uisuk School for only six months was the first great and courageous decision in my life."

President Kim Il Sung founded the Down-with-Imperialism Union-the true communist revolutionary organization on Oct 17th 1927, and then made a great and courageous determination of dropping out of Hwasong Uisuk School in order to realize the ideal of it.

Dropping out of Hwasong Uisuk School-this implies the noble spiritual world of the President as a great revolutionary and great man.

First of all, this great and courageous determination reflects his bold decision to break the fence of nationalism which had been encircling the Korean revolution until then.

His dropping out of this school was not merely a transfer from an uninteresting school to another school.

It was the denial of bourgeois nationalism, which had become more and more fragile. It was the aspiration of the Korean revolution to a new road.

Originally, Nationalism was the first patriotic ideological trend to emerge in the arena of national liberation struggle with the progressive idea of defending the interests of the nation.

But nationalism, which had played a certain role in the early days of the modern revolution and the national-liberation struggle in our country, became an ideological sphere that defends the interests of the capitalist class as capitalism developed and bourgeois became the reactionary ruling class. The limitations and weaknesses of bourgeois nationalism, which regarded the interests of the bourgeoisie as the interests of the nation, was fully revealed through the March 1 Movement of 1919, but until the mid-1920s, the persistent bourgeois nationalism did not give up their leading position of the national-liberation struggle, and many people still had considerable expectations of it, and they taught more nationalist ideas than the socialist ideas in the education of the younger generation. There were more nationalists than communists in his human life.

After Kim Hyong Jik passed away, his old-friend, nationalists, still valued friendship with him and they used to bring some necessaries though little when they came to President Kim Il Sung's house. They loved him and discussed his future career with deep care, hoping that he would take the lead in the nationalist movement to meet their expectations. The circumstances and conditions surrounding the President were under the encirclement of nationalism with a history of more than half a century that could not ignore its influence even at the time of its decline.

However, he made a great and courageous determination of dropping out of Hwasong Uisuk School as he thought that he could not let the Korean revolution follow the slow course of history of turning from nationalism to communism. He had a real feeling of gratitude and respect towards his father's old friends-nationalists, but he thought that, because of this kind of feelings, if he got along politely and diplomatically with the idea of nationalism that he defined as conservative and old, in essence it was deception on them, who took care of himself as their own son.

This great and courageous determination also reflects the self-sacrificing spirit and great determination of President Kim Il Sung to devote himself and his family to the country, the people, the times and the revolution.

Not everyone can make a decision of sacrificing his life, but only can true revolutionary who burns his heart to light the true way on people and motivate them to overthrow unjust society. But revolutionaries are also human beings, and they also have family and duty to their families.

At that time, he was obliged to take care of his unhealthy mother and two younger brothers as eldest son of his family. After his father left the world, many problems arising in maintaining his family were naturally put on his shoulders.

It was very difficult to make a decision of dropping out of that school for the especially filial great leader because it meant that he would alienate nationalists who helped his mother and younger brothers who were leading hard life without father, by dropping out of the school what the nationalists recommended, and choosing a different way from what they expected.

Furthermore, if President Kim Il Sung moved to another school from this Hwasong Uisuk School that grant students free of charge, his mother, who was leading very hard life by doing laundry, and needle work for pay, should even take upon with providing him school fees.

But President Kim Il Sung thought the way he chose was the truly correct way of realizing his father's will for national liberation and being a good son of both country and family although he might not discharge his own filial duties for a small family and his decision may be no good for his own family.

The way that President Kim Il Sung chose was the road of revolution no one had been on before.

In those days, bourgeois nationalism was being replaced by communism, but there were no leaders or guardians to lead it, because nobody proposed the mode of revolution in colonial countries.

Nevertheless, President Kim Il Sung made a great and courageous determination of dropping out of Hwasong Uisuk School with firm resolution of sacrificing his everything for country and people.

His bold decision was also associated with the respect to and firm trust in his parents who devoted themselves to the revolution.

His father, Kim Hyong Jik, told him about Lenin and USSR during his lifetime and always said that a society in which the people can lead a happy life should be built in his country. His words and his idea of the communist movement were a great element of ideological nutrients for the growth of the President, and his determination to drop out of school was based on his trust in him.

Kim Hyong Jik, his father, lived like a candle in his lifetime, burning his whole life for the revolution without selfishness. He just wanted to buy sweets and others for his sons but he built schools for growing generation wherever he went and prepared educational instruments including organs with the money he collected penny by penny. Farming tools and house furnishing of old home at Mangyongdae are all properties left by grandfather, Kim Po Hyon rather than father Kim Hyong Jik.

What let President Kim Il Sung made a great and courageous determination of sacrificing his all for people is the career of father Kim Hyong Jik, who devoted his whole life of honesty and integrity for revolution as a man and revolutionary.

President Kim Il Sung's mother, Kang Pan Sok, too, befitting the wife of a revolutionary, devoted her everything for taking care of other revolutionaries honestly.

Kang Pan Sok understood when Kim Hyong Jik dropped out of Pyongyang Sunsil Middle School and embarked on the road of revolution and made her own way as a wife of a revolutionary moving to different places of Korea and Manchuria in China with him. As the eldest daughter-in-law of the 12-member household, she was in charge of family's difficult economic life but did nothing to hinder her husband's revolutionary work.

The President firmly believed that she would understand and support his decision of dropping out of school for the revolution.

Indeed, it was not a normal decision made by a boy at the age of fifteen. It was a great and courageous determination from the sense of responsibility of being the son of the country and people rather than one for her individual career and distinction.

Only could make such determination President Kim Il Sung, who was born in Mangyongdae family that have turned out for the country and people anytime in high spirit of regarding the principle of loving country, nation and people as a tradition of family.

The first courageous decision in his life was the epitome of the immortal greatness of Kim Il Sung who devoted his all to the country and the revolution all his life. As President Kim Il Sung made correct decision of dropping out of Hwasong Uisuk School at a proper time, the Korean revolution could take a rapid road of its development and the anti-Japanese national liberation struggle in our country guided by genuine young communists could finally achieve the liberation of the country.

The immortal achievement performed by President Kim Il Sung, who devoted his whole life on the road of revolution for country and people, will be more brilliantly recorded on the road of the Korean revolution advancing under the leadership of the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un.
