Carrying Forward the Ideas of and Exploits in State Building of President Kim Il Sung

The 77th founding anniversary of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, the glorious motherland, is approaching in the historic period when the Korean people are ushering in a great heyday of their country's prosperity under the outstanding leadership of the Workers' Party of Korea.

Greeting this significant day, the Korean people recall with solemn emotion the immortal revolutionary achievements performed by Chairman Kim Jong Il, who made tireless efforts to thoroughly carry forward and accomplish President Kim Il Sung's ideas of and immortal exploits in State building, as well as the State building exploits of the President, the founding father of Juche Korea.

Viewing that the sure guarantee for the prosperity of our Republic lies in carrying forward the President's ideas of and immortal exploits in State building, he wisely organized and led the efforts to this end.

Chairman Kim Jong Il said:

"Guided by the Juche-oriented philosophy of President Kim Il Sung on State building, and under his seasoned and sophisticated leadership, our Republic was established and has developed as a genuine country of the people, as a Juche-oriented socialist country, the first of its kind in history, and our people, who were oppressed and maltreated for centuries, have become able to enjoy, in the embrace of the Republic, the pride and happiness of a genuine life in which they exercise full rights as masters of the State and society."

Chairman Kim Jong Il led the DPRK to regard it as the fundamental ideal of State building of Workers' Party of Korea to believe in the people as in Heaven and apply it to State building and activities.

Believing in the people as in Heaven is the Party's fundamental ideal of State building, the basis of all its lines and policies and the starting point of State activities.

All the lines, policies and activities of our Party and government, to say nothing of the laws of our state, are, to all intents and purposes, aimed at safeguarding and guaranteeing the independent rights and interests of the masses.

True to the intention of President Kim Il Sung, who regarded it as the fundamental ideal of State building to believe in the people as in Heaven, Chairman Kim Jong Il put forward the promotion of the people's well-being as the supreme principle of State activities and ensured that the slogan "We serve the people!" was applied in State activities in a thoroughgoing way.

The slogan "We serve the people!" reflects his political creed in pursuing the politics of love for the people, regarding it as his motto and mission to serve the people.

He regarded the demands and interests of the masses for independence as the absolute criterion in formulating all lines and policies, and regarded it as an iron rule to approach and appreciate everything with them as a yardstick.

He ensured that the Party and the government of the Republic, despite the strained conditions in which everything is in short supply, concentrated all their efforts on stabilizing and improving the people's livelihood, with their primary attention focused on it, and stepped up the building of an economically powerful country so as to see to it that in the near future our people can live a rich life with no reason for envying anyone in the world.

On October 28, 2003, he met with senior officials of the Central Committee of the Party, and earnestly asked them to become true servants of the people, who make devoted efforts for the good of the people as required by the Party's slogan "We serve the people!"

The DPRK could become the most intimate motherland of the people, which leads and takes care of them with affection and trust and defends their destiny. This is entirely an outcome of the wise leadership of Chairman Kim Jong Il, who put forward the promotion of the people's well-being as the supreme principle of State activities.

The single-hearted unity of the whole society constitutes a priceless achievement in State building that could only be made by our socialist country, and this is the proud face of our society, the like of which cannot be witnessed elsewhere in the world.

Thanks to the wise guidance of President Kim Il Sung, who was endowed with love for and trust in the people, and of Chairman Kim Jong Il, who faithfully carried forward the former's ideas and will, the DPRK has developed into a people's country which regards promoting the people's wellbeing as the supreme principle in its activities and enjoys absolute support and trust of the masses, thus fully demonstrating its might without vacillation whatever the storms of history.

Chairman Kim Jong Il wisely led the DPRK to firmly preserve the Juche character and national character in State building and activities.

The Juche character and national character precisely mean independence and the lifeblood of a country and nation.

As the struggle of the masses for independence is conducted with the country and nation as a unit, its party, government and the masses should conduct the revolution and construction independently and creatively as masters.

For the first time in history, President Kim Il Sung advanced the original ideas of the Juche character and national character and the line of independence, paved the way for the independent development of the Korean revolution and led the revolution and construction to consistently adhere to the Juche-oriented principle and line of independence with his iron faith and, will and seasoned leadership.

Chairman Kim Jong Il put it forward as a fundamental principle in implementing the socialist cause to preserve the Juche character and national character and adhere to the line of independence, true to President Kim Il Sung's ideas of State building, and ensured that they were applied to the letter.

He saw to it that all problems arising in State building and activities and in the revolution and construction were resolved by our own efforts on the principle of self-reliance in conformity with the actual conditions of our country and the interests of our revolution and in accordance with our ideology and faith and our determination and will.

He ensured that the principles of Juche and independence were firmly maintained in all fields of politics, the economy, military affairs, culture and external relations so as to thoroughly reject the worship of big countries, dogmatism and all other ideas of dependence on foreign forces, and everything was done on our own terms and determination in conformity with our ideology, requirements and interests, regardless of the established theories and existing formulas.

The slogan "Let us live our own way!" advanced by Chairman Kim Jong Il in his early years encapsulates the Korean-style revolutionary mode President Kim Il Sung held fast to and implemented all his life.

In the days of thoroughly applying this Korean-style mode of struggle, self-reliance turned into a firm spirit of the Korean people, an immutable mode of their existence and their fighting mettle, resulting in the Juche-oriented power of self-reliance rising up on this land.

The slogan "Let us live our own way!" put forward by Chairman Kim Jong Il was an epochal milestone that made the banners of Juche, national independence and self-reliance flutter more fiercely at the helm of the Korean revolution.

He also ensured that the national character was valued and sustained in all fields of the revolution, construction and social life.

He made it an important policy for our country to value and sustain the fine and beautiful national traditions of our nation and ensured that the policy was implemented to the letter.

He ensured that, while preserving the excellence of nation handed down historically, new fine excellence of the nation was created with the advance of the times and the revolution and, on this basis, the people were educated in the Korean-nation-first spirit, the spirit that our leader, our Party, our ideology and our system are best, and that they further exalted the greatness of their nation.

Thanks to his wise leadership, our people were able to cherish a uniquely high level of national pride, self-confidence, consciousness of national independence and self-respect, and give fuller play to the spirit of socialist patriotism.

As he energetically and wisely led the efforts to firmly carry forward President Kim Il Sung's ideas of and exploits in State building, the DPRK has demonstrated its fame as a people-centred socialist country, a socialist state strong in Juche character and national character, and independent in politics, self-supporting in the economy and self-reliant in national defence.
